Starting a new thread for the season.
My Yanks are off to a decent start. Love that they brought Volpe up. I am still unsure if we have enough firepower in the lineup and bullpen to win the series this year. Solid start considering some key injuries. I agree with you though my feeling is we will fall short again, rotation should be strong once healthy but bullpen has a few question marks and these hitters gotta stay healthy/turn up in the playoffs, I'm still skeptical until we see it. The Rays gotta slow down soon right... We don't need anyone else to think about except the Astros! Volpe settling in nicely

Without Judge, the lineup just does not look good enough. When Judge comes back we will be better but this lineup needs some serious restructuring going forward. Rodon should be back soon so our starters should get a big lift at least. LF was the clear position we needed to address in the offseason and they didn't do it. Shame Cabrera hasn't performed and DJ has had a real disappointing year so far. But as you say Rodon to come back and if we can get Bader and Judge playing the outfield for the rest of the year it's a different team, Mckinney has been getting it done too...

I think the Yankees need to make some trades to fortify certain parts of the team. I’m really not liking what I am seeing but with some improvements and Judge coming back, things could change quickly. Anything's possible and we're a different team with Judge. Making the playoffs would be a success from where we are. Boone is struggling this offseason I think, not that I believe he's ever been given a roster ready to win a World Series but something has to change, Cashman has a lot to answer for too on some major awful moves. Combination of Torres not being able to play shortstop and that move for Donaldson and IKF has just been a complete disaster.

I'm hearing rumors that they may (or should) go after Ohtani. I say don't. Don't mortgage the future on a rental. This is not a championship team, even with him on the roster. Not liking the Rodon signing either. Had too many injuries previously and while he was healthy the last 2 years and effective, I'm not surprised at all that by July 17th, he's only had 2 starts.

Hopefully Rodon can prove his value this half but I agree concerning. I think we need every day consistent and reliable players rather than stars nonetheless I wouldn't complain about Ohtani pending what we'd give up! Seen a few rumours about Soto too but no doubt IKF will be starting LF when we lose the Wildcard to the Astros..

I was hoping when they got swept last year in the ALCS it would force the organization to do something drastic. They need to do something drastic after this season because it's been absolutely horrendous. Rodon was a pitiful signing, injuries decimated the season from the beginning when they lost 3/5 of their rotation before a single game was played. Sevy's gotta do, no idea what or when to expect German although I do support him trying to get sober and better himself, Cole unfortunately is being wasted on a Cy Young caliber season. Schmidt's not dependable and who knows what's going on with Cortes. Not sure how they can fix it in the offseason. Plus, let's not forget Judge once again gets injured when its not his rookie or walk year on a play that didn't need to be made if it meant him missing 6 weeks worth of games. And don't even get me started on Stanton or DJ. This team needs a major shake up and I'm not sure if getting rid of Cashman, Boone, or both is the only answer they need! That's it. Sevy is done and gone this year and you're right aside from Cole the rest are question marks although Schmidt has been doing pretty good excluding tonight...Offseason priorities for me are re-sign Bader, get new 3B and LF and actually get them this time. Then once they work out who is capable of being in the rotation see what we need to do. Montas is still there too Rodon been a complete disaster but we gonna have to hope he can come around next year

Now that the season is officially over for the Yankees, what’s next? How does this team get fixed? Unfortunately, there's no quick fixes. Word is Yoshinobu Yamamoto who's throwing lights out in Japan right now ( Link), is poised to make the jump so I wouldn't mind seeing the Yanks maybe take a stab at him. Cashman was in attendance during his last complete game a few weeks ago. Plus, the kid's only 24. I said before the year started and I'm sticking to it: I wouldn't mind the Yankees taking a flyer on Trevor Bauer either. Give him a 1 year deal, allow him to rebuild his value. I understand the backlash because of his past and him and Cole aren't the greatest of friends but I don't care. I want to win a title, not a popularity contest. Here are his numbers on Japan this season ( LinkAs for the hitting, I have no idea other than Judge and Stanton need to remain healthy (which we all know they're not going to do). Dominguez going down was a blow. DJ has cratered and come back down to earth after he signed his extension in '21. They're also gonna need a first baseman pretty soon as next year will be Rizzo's last.

Cody Bellinger is a free agent and maybe they can make some trades to get some more bat to ball skill hitters in our lineup.
