For the sake of internal harmony and finally letting bygones be bygones, the Bonanno crime family brain trust recently bumped up Anthony (Bruno) Indelicato to consigliere, per multiple sources on both sides of the law. The decision to promote Indelicato, 77, was made to put a definitive end to the longstanding tensions between Bonanno boss Michael (Mikey Nose) Mancuso and imprisoned former boss Vincent (Vinnie Gorgeous) Basciano and the more modern squabbles that erupted between Mancuso and the Cammarano brothers in Brooklyn, these sources allege.

Indelicato’s new assignment was “delicately negotiated,” according to sources, and Mancuso, described as a “frenemy” of Indelicato’s, sees upping Indelicato to consigliere is the first and most important step in getting any lingering toxic acrimony in his borgata in the rear-view mirror is the best thing for him and everyone involved. Renowned Mancuso “whisperer,” Vincent (Vinnie TV) Badalamenti, who has been Mancuso’s reputed consigliere the past five years, helped negotiate the position-shift and advised Mancuso that it was the most pragmatic direction to go in and voluntarily stepped aside for Indelicato, sources report. Indelicato is a two-time convicted murderer, walking free in 2022 from a decade and a half as a guest of the government for the February 2001 slaying of drug-addled Genovese mob associate Frank Santoro in response to Santoro threatening to kidnap and kill Basciano’s son.

Despite never before holding a position in the Bonanno administration, “Bruno” Indelicato is one of the more connected mob figures in the Big Apple and one of the American mafia’s more iconic non-shot calling figures; Indelicato captained the hit squad that assassinated Bonanno don Carmine (The Cigar) Galante in July 1979 on the patio of a Brooklyn restaurant owned by members of the Bonanno organization in a Commission-sanctioned contract to oust the insular, power-obsessed Galante. Per a group of Bonanno insiders and members of law enforcement actively investigating the crime family, Mancuso has agreed to let go of his vendetta against the Cammaranos — allowing them to remain inactive and on-the-shelf, but assuring Indelicato they are in the clear in terms of physical retribution. He’s also agreed to “make” and okay future promotions for members of Indelicato and Basciano’s Bronx faction, opposed to his own tight-knit crew holding things down in the BX borough where his primary loyalty base resides.

“Mikey Nose” Mancuso, 68, is finishing up a short prison term himself (11 months) for a violation of his supervised-release conditions and will be home this summer. Getting his start in the storied Bronx-East Harlem Purple Gang and an early reputation as an earner and a hitter, Mancuso was Basciano’s friend and acting boss in the 2000s before the pair fell out and Basciano placed a murder contract on his head from behind bars in early 2005 that was never carried out. The perpetually-confident, bronzed and grinning 64-year old Basciano is hoping a Hail-Mary appeal effort filed last year based on claims of entrapment could propel him back to freedom.

When Mancuso was in the last years of a 12-year prison stint for relaying the green-light order from Basciano in the can to the hit team on the street in the November 2004 slaying of out-of-control Bonanno mob associate Randy Pizzolo. As feared as any Godfather in the mob today, Mikey Nose survived a bloodless palace coup attempt by his acting boss Joseph (Joe C) Cammarano, Jr., who won a polling of the crime family’s captains, but had his ascent blocked by Mancuso loyalists in the Bonannos and bosses in New York City’s other Five Families.

Throughout late 2022 and parts of 2023, “Joe C” and his button-holding brother Dino, were targets of Mancuso-dispatched hit teams, dodging a string of shootings and fire bombings per sources, in the aftermath of a July 2022 funeral-home brawl in Glen Cove, Long Island that left three of Mancuso’s top lieutenants beaten and battered by the Cammaranos and their biker-club pals. The stunning melee followed Mikey Nose trying to ban Joe C from attending his father-in-law’s wake (shelfed capo Vito Grimaldi). The Cammaranos’ father was the Bonanno mob’s former acting underboss and Brooklyn capo, Joseph (Joe Saunders) Cammarano, Sr. responsible for the crime family’s “Zips” and business relations with the East Coast biker gangs during the Massino era.

According to federal-court and FBI intelligence documents, Indelicato’s key role in the murder of Galante got him upped to a capo slot, which he held until his bust in the “Commission Case” in the mid-1980s for killing Galante and other racketeering offenses. But prior to his promotion this year, Indelicato hadn’t risen above the rank of soldier (supposedly because of erratic behavior), although he did belong Basciano’s inner-circle as Vinnie Gorgeous climbed his way to the boss’s chair in early 2004. Both Indelicato and Basciano came up in the Bonannos in the 1970s as part of the “Three Captains” faction comprised of Bruno’s dad, Alphonse (Sonny Red) Indelicato, Basciano’s mentor, Dominick (Big Trinny) Trinchera, and Phil (Lucky) Giaccone, all slain in the famous “Three Capos Murders” in May 1981 in a second power struggle that broke out in the crime family for the second time in less than two years.

With Mikey Nose Mancuso away in the joint the past eight months, he’s entrusted his best pal John (Johnny Joe) Spirito and his main protege Ernie (The Sledgehammer) Aiello, to operate Bonanno mob affairs on a day-to-day basis on his behalf, as acting boss and underboss, respectively, per sources. Spirito, Bronx street boss John (Johnny Skyway) Palazzolo and reputed Queens capo Jerry Asaro aided Vinny TV in convincing Mancuso a partial restructuring was necessary for the good, welfare and longevity of the crime family and his reign in particular (going on 20 years if you include his nine years in an acting-boss capacity), arranging for Indelicato to take Vinny Tv’s place in the hierarchy, these sources allege.
