Mob guys love nicknames. All types of nicknames. One the most popular nicknames related to food.

This next challenge involves six different mafiosi, from six separate Cosa Nostra Families throughout the United States. Each had a nickname related to baking.

Your job? — “should you choose to accept it” — is to identify the first and last name of each mafiosi, then match the (letter) of their nickname to the corresponding (number) of the Family or city they were affiliated with.

A) Louie the Baker
B) Eli the Baker
C) Mike the Baker
D) Dom the Baker
E) Joe the Baker
F) Sal the Baker

1) Bonanno
2) Chicago
3) Detroit
4) Gambino
5) Genovese
6) Lucchese

B-5 for Eli Zeccardi is correct, Butchie. But as you mentioned, there is only one slot for the Genovese. So your second pick, although an excellent effort, isn't the guy in question.

Thats why I posted that notice several challenges ago to also really look at the Families/Cities involved. It provides some solid clues.

Yes, at the height of his power, which was around the same time of his disappearance and presumed murder, Zeccardi was thought to be a hierarchy member of the Genovese clan. I believe he held the consigliere position.

E-4 was Giuseppe “Joe the Baker” Calandruccio (Gambino)

“Joe the Baker” Calandruccio was reputedly an old-time soldier of the Anastasia/Gambino Family about which very little was known. But over the years he was said to have alternately resided and operated in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens during his shadowy underworld career.

F-1 was Salvatore “Sal the Baker” Catalano (Bonanno)

Salvatore Catalano, aka: “Toto” was a Sicilian-born import to the Bonanno clan. He lived in the Middle Village, Queens where he owned the Catalano Bakery (hence, from where he got one of his nicknames) and mob social club, and operated as a Family soldier. One of the most important drug smugglers and traffickers of the Family (the Pizza Connecton,) he was eventually elevated to a capo post, and ultimately, became the Bonanno “acting boss” for a time as well.

A-2 was Louis “The Baker” Bombacino (Chicago)

Louis Bombacino was a known hoodlum and reputed strong-arm man affiliated with the Chicago Outfit who was later killed for having turned informant.

C-6 was Michael “Mike the Baker” LaRosa (Lucchese)

Mike LaRosa, aka; Mike the Baker, was a wealthy old-timer of the Lucchese Family's Mulberry Street faction. He got his nickname because of the multimillion-dollar a year bakery wholesale business he owned and operated for many decades. Located along Elizabeth Street, LaRosa Bakery Corporation brought in millions for Mike and the Lucchese borgata.
