In two previous threads I started, we take an interactive look at some of the gangsters who served decades behind bars, but were later released as broken old ex-convicts to “technically” die as free men.
Or the lucky fellas, the goodfellas, who were fortunate enough to largely skit the law their entire lives to die within the comfort of their own homes, in their own bed, with their “shoes off” as the mob saying goes.
But through the years there were many many other hoodlums who were not as fortunate as their underworld brethren, and ended up meeting their maker while still locked-up like dogs. - Although, admittedly, a Herculean task, let’s try and compile a list of who some of these men were.
I’ll go first. Here’s two who quickly come to mind….
Lucchese capo Giovanni “Big John” Ormento. This thrice-convicted prolific heroin trafficker was eventually sentenced to served 40 years in jail. He died behind bars while still serving out his term.
Lucchese soldier John “Johnny Dio” Dioguardi. This legendary bad guy served many jail sentences over the course of his career, but eventually died while still in federal prison for his myriad of criminal activity.

I'll go with a semi recent death. Joey Lombardo. Apparently had cancer similiar to Gotti's and was missing all his teeth. Fuck that! Excellent addition. I was actually gonna add Lombardo shortly. You beat me to the punch. lol. Here's another Outfit guy I believe died behind bars....longtime Chicago Outfit capo/boss, Samuel “Wings” Carlisi

Henry Tameleo Patriarca Family,New England. The worst part is that he was innocent. FBI held back evidence that would have exonerated him to protect Joe Barboza and Jim Flemmi from being exposed as snitches. Charges were filed against the crooked Feds, and Tameleo's family received a huge settelement,as well as a posthumous pardon.
Another excellent addition, Lou. Yes, Tameleo got fucked around pretty good. So did his codefendants. Wasn't Peter Limone also sent away on that same case and served a ton of time before getting paroled? Limone,Lou Greco, and Joe Salvati were all convicted in 1968. Greco, Salvati and Tameleo got the death penalty but their sentences were commuted in 1972 as part of the Furman V. Georgia decision. Tameleo and Greco died in prison i,1985 and1995 respectively. Salvati was paroled in 1997. Between 2001 and 2007,all charges for these guys were dismissed.

(far from the first, far from the last that'll ever happen.) The difference with this case is that it came out in the wash...way to late to save them from a hellish life behind bars. But it eventually got exposed.

Anthony ''Old Man'' Spero
Powerful Bonanno figure; Died in prison as a old broken man. He was shelved because his daughter was in real housewifes of the Mafia. Yes, I do remember something like that happening. lol. The same thing happened with Anthony "TG" Graziano after his daughters got involved, am I correct, Furio?
