We all have heard about guys in the life, but what is hardly ever talked about are the guys who hold position of driver.

These are the guys who wait hand and foot on mob guys and drive them around wherever they must go.

Its a pretty important position as not only are you driving them around, but you are at the same time looking after them and their safety.

So how much do these guys make?? Also list some famous guys who were drivers at one point or another.

I don't think they make much, I think that job is more about being schooled/groomed. A young guy who could handle himself would drive around a boss or a big captain and learn stuff from them, attend sit downs, meet other high ranking guys, listen to high level talks etc.

Like the Chin with Vito Genovese or Billy D'ellia with Russell Buffalino. Both were groomed and later became bosses.

Donnie Brasco was the perfect example. Unfortunately he was not who they thought he was.

I don't think they get paid, I believe that they drive a person they have a lot of business with. On the high end of it, Billotti driving Paul Castellano is a good example.

Cerone was a driver for both Ricca and Accardo while he was a capo and later as acting boss. That was for respect and loyalty. No taxi money involved lol lol (hence his nickname "The Lackey" lol)

Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

I never understood why Castellano kept Bilotti as a driver once he made him underboss. It doesn't send a good message to the Family and to the other families. It made him look weak. Do you think Neil Dellacroce would have driven Don Carlo ?

Chin Gigante had one of his capo Vito "Bruce" Palmieri drive his wife and daughter when they would go from their house in Jersey to his mother's house in the Village. So that's a captain who is not even driving the Boss but the family of the Boss

To me, the boss's driver should be a made guy but certainly not a capo or administration.

I think they don't see being a driver as demenaing or of low status. It's like driving a friend or relative around if you have a car and they don't. I wonder how Paul got around when Bilotti was not available?

Giancana for example had at least 3 substitute drivers....obviously if Blasi wasnt available. Same as Aiuppa, Capone and many other bosses.
