This guy was Italian only on his mother's side right? And later became Cosa Nostra underboss? I can understand about the soldier spot, but underboss???
I was reminded with Richard Cain's example and thats why Im asking. Pittsburgh also allegedly had some type of "slightly different" heirachy, similar to Chicago's. Except for FOH, none of the so-called "mafia experts" ever explained to me the "capo squadrone" position, a term that was used by high level member of the Pittsburgh mob. It seems both families were quite "liberal". In the 1980s the family lost members and anyone can be made, was made including Porter that was a high respected associate. Thanx, but don't discount Lou_Para's or Millsburgh's knowledge of Pittsburgh's LCN.

Ok , and thanks fellas. This is another proof that some "known" researchers have to make a distinction between the US "money making" mob and the traditional CN clans. People are too much focused on ranks in the US Mob, some powerful guys have a button others are just associates. A button doesn't protect you. Nicely said and I agree.

From what I understand, the term "Capo Sqadrone" was first mentioned back in 1977 by a CI (snitch),who alleged that Kelly Mannarino, and Anthony Ripepi were known by this title, which was considered more deserved than calling them Capo Decina or Caporegime. I haven't seen any compelling reasons to believe this.If anybody can provide more info on the snitches ID,or any thing concerning his testimony, please post it if you will. I'm thinking it might have been Joey Rosa? From my point of view or military view, the term "capo squadrone" probably means a squad leader with jurisdiction over 2 or 3 teams or squads, and each squad is headed by "team leader" with around 10 soldiers below him. For example, LaPorte was allegedly a squad leader or capo squadrone, with two team leaders or capos such as Zizzo and Catuara, and both had made guys and associates under their jurisdiction, including certain areas and rackets.
