Daggett is a third-generation member of the union. He was head of the powerful New Jersey union, Local 1804-1 before becoming head of the entire International Longshoremen’s Association in 2011. He made $728,000 last year as union president, plus another $173,000 as president emeritus of the New Jersey local, POLITICO reported.

Federal prosecutors in 2004 alleged a mob conspiracy to elect Daggett head of the union. Daggett denied the accusations, saying he had worker support, and he was ultimately cleared of wrongdoing. But Daggett is still alleged to have ties to the Genovese crime organization — one of the infamous “Five Families” of the American Mafia — “in a separate but related racketeering case that has been lingering in court for nearly a decade,” POLITICO reports.

The union boss predicted that a strike would bring the economy to its knees, saying that in the first week, the strike would be all over the news. The second week, car salesmen would be laid off, and the third week, malls would start closing down and construction workers would be laid off, he said.

“In today’s world, I’ll cripple you,” Daggett said earlier this month in a video post. “I will cripple you, and you have no idea what that means.”

There is also the fact that some of the same New York and New Jersey union officials whom federal prosecutors have in the past accused of racketeering have since risen to the top ranks of the East Coast waterfront union, the International Longshoremen’s Association.

One is Harold J. Daggett, the garrulous president, who owns a 76-foot yacht, the Obsession, and has been spotted by his members riding in a Bentley. One longshoreman said he had been surprised to catch sight of a holster strapped to Mr. Daggett’s ankle during a meeting.

The Justice Department, which has lost two cases against Mr. Daggett, has described him as an “associate” of the Genovese crime family whose rise through the union ranks was part of the mob’s plan. A good portion of the Justice Department’s evidence against him came from the testimony of an aged mob turncoat, George Barone, who had once been a waterfront enforcer for the Genovese family and who described Mr. Daggett as thoroughly under the mob’s control.

But Mr. Daggett, on trial in 2005, took the witness stand and portrayed himself as a mob target, describing a 1980 episode in which Mr. Barone had put a gun to his head and threatened to kill him and his family — an incident that so terrified Mr. Daggett he urinated in his pants, according to news accounts.

During that trial, one of Mr. Daggett’s co-defendants, a reputed mobster named Lawrence Ricci, went missing. Several weeks after the men were acquitted, Mr. Ricci’s decomposing body was found in the trunk of a car outside a New Jersey diner. The murder, which Mr. Arsenault said is the last known waterfront killing, remains unsolved.

Through Daggett ---- at the very least ---- we know that the mob still has a toehold in the International Longshoremens Association.

Lol between his physical look with the glasses, the goatee, the balding head and then his tattoos and that golden bling he wears this is the first time I've ever seen somebody look like a seamless crossover between a geography teacher, a biker and a pimp.

Can we really say that the world is a better place without the Mafia? Serious question. Back in the mob's so-called heyday, the government made them out to be this big bad boogeyman, the Evil of Evils, if you will. Now, in America at least, it has been eradicated at worst, or put on life support at best. Yet I don't see how the world became a better place. At least the mob kept things interesting.

Anyone who thinks that no-show jobs aren't still rife within the mob world are seriously fucking stupid. No way are wiseguys doing any actual physical labor.
