Back in the day how special was it when a guy got made? What kind of $$$ in regards to income are we talking about say if you got made in the 1960s? Basically become a millionaire or close to it if you ended up getting your button? I imagine it was a life changing event if you were chosen.

Getting made, I believe, had little effect on your wealth class. You joined because it was an honor, and because of the criminal prestige that came with it. You still only made the kind of money that your earning capabilities allowed you to make.

That is exactly correct, Liggio.

Yeah but you can benefit financially from being a made guy. You can borrow money at a lower rate and then loan at a higher rate. Made guys can borrow from their Family at 1 or 2% and then loan it at 4 or 5%.

People would also come to you with business opportunities because they need the protection of a made guy.

So even if he's not a big earner, a made guy could make good money through his status, as long as he was willing to make some moves and associate with others.

That also happens to be true.

So it opened opportunities financially once not attainable by being just an associate. Being made was a big deal back then with the rackets that were still $$$ makers. Today many of these rackets are gone.

I think the secret aspect in the old days made it even more special than in later years.

In the old days where there was more connections with the families,to be made give the oppurtunity to made money all along the States because the mob was still a secret society and plus the fact that another family must ask the ok to your boss give a change to be saved if you was a moneymaker or had a someone in the hierarchy that was protecting you.
For sure there was brokester but was very few cases.
The book was closed in 1957 because many capos was selling membership at 50K each.
Nowcis the opposite,to be an associate gave more oppurtunity to made money and get a lesser sentence if caught.
That I remember the last case was the mother of Joey D'Amico that gave 50k to induct her son in the 1982.

Then Joey D'Amico became a fucking rat. He actually turned back up in NYC and got his ass kicked by Tommy Stacks Leonessa. I wonder why that's never brought up when talking about retribution against rats.

I recently heard that Greg DePalma paid for his son Craig to be inducted.

I don't think he did. Craig dePalma was inducted in the 90's and I doubt they were taking payment for membership. However it's possible that Greg DePalma negotiated something or kick up some good money to ease the situation and make sure the bosses were looking kindly into making his son.

I hope that you’re kidding or joking around, that fraudulent scumbag has gotten his ass kicked at least 4 times that I am aware of. He was never even a real connected guy, he was a scumbag , toothless Drug Dealer who kicked up to Jr Gotti for a few years. I don’t even understand why he’s discussed here as he’s a fugazi, was never in the life - he was always just a toothless drug dealer who for a few years kicked up to Junior Gotti before he was chased out of Queens for good.

He’s Probably even gotten his ass kicked more times that we don’t even know about. Let’s see off the top of my head- Sugardaddys Queens Incident were he jumped into the sewage, Cuzin’s Incident he got Pummeled down to the ground with a black eye, the time he was Knocked out at Tampa Strip Club, and the time in AC he got punched at Borgata and he ran out, calling 911. He’s an easy target though , he’s in his 60s, addicted to prescription pills, and is a 5’4 tall midget of a man.
