It's been said that Carmine Galante had issues with the Gambino's when he released from prison in the late 1970's. Even allegedly whacking 8 Gambino guys... (Has not been proven)

Anyways; I've just found out that Carmine Galante had problems with the Cherry Hill Gambino's; and was causing alot of trouble for them... Galante and the Cherry Hill Gambino's were into ''Drugs''. and Galante saw them as a potential rival.

Is is possible this is why the Gambino's wanted Galante whacked because he was using a heavy-hand on the Cherry Hill Gambino's.

It makes sense... because after the Galante hit.... Several member of the Gambino's were at the Ravenite which was ran by Neil Dellacroce in the late 70's.

This is something I've never heard until today about Galante causing trouble to the Cherry Hill Gambino's.

What's everyone's thought?

Interesting, also the Bonannos headed by Carmine Galante, was at the time one of the smallest of the five New York crime “families” in terms of the number of members. They had 200 known members and associates, according to police reports, making it the fourth largest in the city. The largest and most powerful organization, police authorities said, is believed to be the Gambino family, with 1,000 members and associates. Mr. Galante took over the Bonanno operation in 1974 after its original leader, Joseph Bonanno, was forced out.

It's definitely a interesting point that Galante was trying to push the Cherry Hill Gambino's around.

I guess thats why Paul Castellano voted to have Galante whacked.

@Hollander

What year was Carmine Galante and Phil Rastelli on the streets together in the 1970"s? There were atlesst atleast 2-3 years that they coincided together on the streets. (Not in jail or in prison)

Joe Bananas was actually decommissioned in 1968, not 1974. Though it does seem like he may have never really retired.

Yes but in 1974, Galante was released from prison on parole. Following his release from prison, Galante allegedly ordered the bombing of the doors to the private mausoleum of his enemy Frank Costello in St. Michael's Cemetery, who had died in 1973.

If Galante did have trouble it would not because he saw them as rivals, that sounds like leak put out by feds. So many stories pop up about him, such as him blowing up the doors of Costello's Mausoleum, another story with no proof.
He obviously pissed off a lot of Mafia people, and The Gambino Family under Castellano did seem to back his killing. The only way Castellano did not know if is if Dellacroce went rouge or was given permission to back it or not back it. The last part i base on the killers of Galente going to The Ravenite and meeting members there.

It was proxy situation which benefited the Bonannos in Florida and New Jersey. Before Galante when away on parole violation, he gave Decavalante Frank Majuri tactical approval of taking out a Cherry Hill Gambino associate who was a big time pusher in the drug trade in Florida. Nardo crew soldier Tony Vig of the Bonannos benefited somehow after this. This issue would fully be resolved in 1981 when John Gambino would give up part of his territory in florida in exchange for no show jobs from the Colombos for a few of crew, and operate in a Jersey county that was controlled by Decavalante. Both the Colombos and Decavalante would have a secret meeting in Brooklyn 1981 in dividing the territory that was part of the rest of Florida territory that the two families were dividing up. T
