I actually wanted to start a thread on this subject. Italians seem to assimilate faster into American society easier than other ethnicities.

Asked about this a few times, is that really true?

Ernie Grillo (Gambino) went to Sicily in 2018 to meet with local bosses. I don't think he speaks italian so there probably was a translator.

I am sure there are quite a few that still speak Italian or know the language enough to do so if necessary.

In italy almost all speak both italian and dialect

Some do, but probably mixed with plenty of dialect from where their family is from, or full dialect. More recent arrivals speak more regular Italian. Here in Canada many second generations Italians, and therefore mobsters, speak some degree of Italian and/or a regional Italian dialect.

If I'm not mistaken Louie Manocchio speaks Italian. He also speaks a few languages
