Carlo Gambino’s Longtime Consigliere Joe N. Gallo

...An excerpt from Joe Gallo’s story;

He was known for always having a quiet demeanor and gave off the appearance of a confidant, sharp, and savvy mafioso. He was also known to be very intelligent and well-spoken and a man who was a notoriously fastidious and sharp dresser.

But although low-keyed and quiet, Gallo was alleged to have performed numerous contract killings for the Family in his younger days. In fact, it was alleged that he actually traveled around the country as directed by superiors to “eliminate” their enemies.

Gallo was interesting. He had a base of operations out of Astoria Queens and was mentioned in the Joe Dogs book. I always wondered how he hooked up with Tommy Agro with whom Im very interested in finding info about.

He hand his hands involved in murder down in Florida and Louisiana back in the 1940s early 1950s. One of his direct superiors was Joe Biando, who introduced him into the garment business after doing an important hit for the family. He is suspected to have had a hand in Phil Mangano murder. He was already getting a nice gambling and loansharking revenue going by that time and is thought to have been made in the early 1950s. It was Frank Costello brother that sold a few slot machines to Gallo with no interest allegedly to help him start up in the 1930s.

Gallo never traveled around doing hits, or had a hand in the Mangano murder. One poster puts up "Gallo traveled the country doing hits" with no proof, the clowns will follow. Next I'll see Nadu or the gay guy from OC shorts telling he same stories, and adding to them. By next year, Gallo will be said to have killed 20 people.

Yes, thats right, Joe Gallo lived in Astoria for many years. He would also sometimes 'hold court' in the neighborhood as well, although his primary base was always Manhattan which was right over the 59th Street Bridge.

I'm not certain, but I believe Tommy Agro became acquainted with Gallo through Joe Armone aka; Joe Piney, who Agro grew close to.

As I think I pointed out in the biography I wrote about him, Gallo always had a small group of soldiers under his wing, one of the closest being a guy by the nickname of Tony Pepsi, who came over from Italy in the 1950s-60s and, arguably, became one of Joe's top men as time went on.

Joe became a heavyweight in the garment district (like most early hierarchy members) -- especially after inheriting many interests of 'Staten Island Joe' Riccobono who formerly held the consigliere post before Gallo.

You are probably right about Agro meeting Gallo through Armone. Armone was a lower east side guy but Agro grew up in Bushwick Brooklyn. Wonder how those 2 met? I know Agro owned a bar in the 1970's but not sure where that was.

These guys get around pretty good and mingle amongst one another in restaurants, bars and clubs, etc., and everybody is constantly being introduced to one another. So who knows. Coulda been anyplace where they first said hello and then gradually got close.

I'm really surprised this site let you take it over and peddle your own website which is behind a paywall.

Oh, well, it's why I don't come around anymore.

The key hierarchy guys during Carlo's long reign included Joseph (Joe Bandy) Biondo, Joseph (Staten Island Joe) Riccobono, Paul (Don Paolo) Gambino...and a bit later, of course, Aniello Dellacroce.

You're right, she ruined it here. Answers her own posts every day, and puts up nonsense.

It's annoying. I used to come on every day. At least solicitors don't come knocking on my door every day. We all know there's a website to read the articles. We don't need to be reminded everyday. Take a step back.
