Today, Jean-Pierre Maldera, the long time boss of the historical Italo-Grenobloise Mafia was shot and killed today.

The Italo-Grenobloise Mafia is the criminal group that has been running the underworld in Grenoble area and the French alps. It's called "Italo-Grenobloise" because it's made of descendants of the Italian families who massively emigrated to the French alps decades ago.

Emigrated from which part of Italy and how long ago?

Depending on how long ago are most of them as much French as Italian?

By now, they're definitely more French than Italian but it's a clanic community with deep italian roots. I think a large part of that community is from Southern Naples. Another part came from Corato in Puglia.

They have been running the mob for several decades. They took over from the Corsicans, who were historically running things in Grenoble. In the 80's, there was a war between the Italo-Grenoblois and the Corsicans over the prostitution rackets. It's a famous story because unlike the Corsicans, the Italo-Grenoblois were very violent with their girls so a few of them ended up suing their pimps and as you can imagine it made national headlines.

Another good story is Robert Maldera aka "Il Pazzo" ("crazy" in Italian) cut his little finger and sent it to the judge who put his wife in jail, threatening to cut the rest of his fingers if his wife wasn't released. He is the brother of Jean-Pierre Maldera, the man who was killed this week.

Cut his finger off? And said he'd take the rest of them too? Lol. He was definitely given the correct nickname.

That's just stupid to cut your own finger off because your wife went to jail, like why would the judge give a fuck.

Now if he had cut someone else's finger off, someone tied to the case that sent his wife to jail, that would've been badass.

Italian magistrates believe that France is slow to evaluate the threat.
