You had to go to schoo on MLK day? My college and my high school always used to just add a day to the end of the year so we could observe the day.
Tupac? You're saying we should pay national respects to Tupac like we do to MLK??? Observe a day like MLK day for a rapper?
And Malcolm X? Yeah right! He endorsed violence and murder in attempt to have the same goals recognized as MLK! MLK was a good man and see the way he went about it compared to Malcolm X.

So according to you it's okay to group all Presidents together but we should have individual days for MLK AND Tupac?? It would be impossible to have a day for all 43 Presidents. As I said, there should be days for the best, like FDR and Lincoln etc. Tupac and Malcolm X should have days too, as I've already said. -Pat

If 2pac and Malcolm get days, then why not Kurt Cobain or Al Capone?

Kurt Cobain was a great writer and guitar player (I'm a Nirvana fan, BTW), yes, but what did he do to change America? Why in the hell should Capone get a day? He was a gangster. What is wrong with you? -Pat

Let me explain the analogy.
Cobain has some slight parallels with 2pac, only you feel 2pc did something to change America, and in addition this change was positive. I don't feel he did anything to change America, and the only influence he had was largely bringing "gangsta rap" up in popularity especially among the youth. I think you already know my opinion on the effects of this music. So, in the end, I can't se how a day can be considered for him, I don't see him as a hero, I don't see him as a good person, and I'll go out on a limb and say the vast majority of Americans don't want a day for him, either.
Al Capone should have a day if Malcolm X gets, one, shouldn't he? Malcolm X used violence and murder, same as Capone. Malcolm's goals were black separation and pride, kind of a radical twist of MLK's goals. So, one violence-causing man gets a day, who's to say another shouldn't?

Tupac was the speaker for not only the youth, but for the youth in the ghetto that continues to be ignored. While he definetly perfected gangsta rap, that's nothing compared to what he did to help the poor and inner city. Malcolm X tried liberating a race that was enslaved for hundreds of years. He had a right to be pissed and try to separate the Blacks and Whites until there was no segregation. Al Capone isn't anything compared to Malcolm X. Al Capone did what he did to benefit himself, and no one else. -Pat

Tupac and Malcolm X are nothing compared to the great Republican heroes of Ireland e.g. Michael Collins, Robert Emmet, Wolfe Tone etc. Also present day heroes like Gerry Adams who are still working towards a united Ireland.

I forgot to mention Terence McSwiney, Bobby Sands and all the others who died on hunger strike when the British wouldn't recognise their rights as prisoners of war. (No offence meant to any
