Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder: I don't think one is better than the other, but they're different. Which do you prefer?

The bass lines in Stevie Wonder's songs are awesome... for example, "Superstition" and "Maybe Your Baby."

But Ray Charles has his share of amazing songs, and played a meaner piano than Stevie, I think.

They're so close in my mind, but if I had to pick, I'd pick Ray.

I agree Zia. They are both very close; both very talented. Definitely a tough choice.

However, I went with Stevie Wonder. I remember him as the twelve year old kid singing Fingertips, and I'm not certain about Ray, but I believe Stevie writes most of his songs. Among my favorites, Sir Duke, I Just Called To Say I Love You, Superstition, For Once In My Life.

I'm not. If you gave me a month to name all the best music artists Stevie Wonder would never even cross my mind. IMO the only thing that makes him special is the fact that he's blind.

I voted for Ray Charles. It was a tough choice, but I gotta go with my man Ray. He has by far the sweetest rendition of America the Beautiful ever created.

I think Ray Charles was more of a "traditionalist" and he did the standards better, but I can see how many younger folk would be more inclined to vote for Stevie Wonder; he seems more "modern".

Oddly enough, both of these musical giants are/were men of great vision.

Absolutely.

How about Jose Feliciano's version of "The Star Spangled Banner"?

Ray Charles' "Georgia on my Mind" is the reason I will be choosing him. Ray's voice is just incredible. I'm not saying that Stevie Wonder doesn't sing as well, but I feel Ray's emotion when he sings. The same goes for Stevie, but to a lesser extent. Also, Ray's rendition of "America, the Beautiful" makes me proud to be an American everytime I hear it, more so than any other version of it. Ray Charles, definitely.
