Best to worst:

1. Eisenhower
2. Clinton
3. JFK. Would have been first had he lived to complete a 2nd term b/c he would have ended the US involvement in Vietnam.
4. Nixon. Would be higher if not for the obvious. He accomplished a lot and could have accomplished a lot more if his paranoia hadn't done him in.
5. Reagan
6. George H.W. Bush
7. LBJ. Reversed JFK's directives about Vietnam and deeply divided the country.
8. Carter. What a disaster he was in office.
9. Ford

George W. Bush is, hands-down, not only the worst president on this list, but the worst president this country has ever had. And hopefully, the worst we will ever have.

IMHO, based on their accomplishments:

I've lived through all of these presidencies and my list is based on personal recollections of events as they happened. Accordingly, I've cut "some slack" to some of those listed (i.e. LBJ placed fairly high on my list remembering that his generals lied to him about winning the war in Vietnam).

I was too young to remember Truman, but he was president when I was born. I'd love to see Turnbull's list - Abraham Lincoln was president when HE was born. :p

I'm going with Hunter S. Thompson on this one. Nixon was an evil fiend. A terrible bastard who hates the American Dream and all it stands for. Nixon is evil, though he did a few things in office like opening relations with China, they do not lessen the horrible things this monster did.

Bottom Line: Nixon was 100 times better than George W. Bush.

[/b][/quote]He has many accomplishments: 1) he allowed 3,000 people to die while ignoring intelligence from the FBI, 2) he has ballooned the nation's debt to its largest in history, 3) he has changed his reasons for going to war with Iraq as many times as OJ changed his alibi, 4) he allowed his corporate friends to rig the energy companies, 5) he didn't lift a finger to help the employees of corporate scandals at Enron and other negligible corporations, 6) he ignored the creation of a centralized national security department until after 9/11 and then rushed to create a half-assed color coded system to frighten Americans when it was politically necessary 7) he did his best not to cooperate with the 9/11 Commission so that it wouldn't come out that our government failed us and, as Commander in Chief, W. failed us, and 8) and best of all, he managed to turn the alliances we had built after 9/11 and crush nearly all of them within one year.

Just like I'm going to ignore all this Bush bashing because it'll just turn into another closed thread.

Yeah, but I only dimly remember Honest Abe. My vote goes to Rutherford B. Hayes. :p
