Does anyone have a translation of what Tom & Mama are saying to each other, during dinner, in GF2? I believe they're talking about Deanna, in not v. flattering terms, but does anyone have the details?

Here's the part from the script:
DEANNA

What's "Chen dandy"?

FREDO

Cent' anni -- It means a hundred years.

CONNIE

It means we should all live happily for a hundred years -- the family. That'd be true if my father were still alive.

MAMA CORLEONE

Connie --

CONNIE

MERLE, you've met my sister-in-law, DEANNA.

[They shake hands]

FREDO's wife.

DEANNA

Pleasure

MERLE

How do you do.

***MAMA CORLEONE [to Tom, in Italian]

[A reference to DEANNA and MERLE]

***TOM HAGEN [in Italian]
[Responds]

MERLE (to CONNIE)

What did she mean by that?

I don't know the real translation but I think it's something to the effect of "Those two would be perfect for each other."

I thought that she commented that they are perfect for each other and was referring to Fredo and Deanna. If that's the case then she sarcastically is making a quip at Fredo's weakness in not being able to keep his wife in line, when she is olbvious rude, vulgar and abusive, basically saying Fredo is a tool.

But If I am wrong and she is referring to Merle and Deanna, then she probibly means that are both good for nothings, expressing more he displeasure in her daughter's and son's choice in mate, but equally as much about their characters.

I remember from another thread about this subject that Mama Corleone says something like "they are the same sort"...

I was always under the impression she was referring to Merle and Deanna, and was inferring that they both are golddiggers and just want an easy ticket (i.e. by marrying into the Corleones).

Remember that Michael already basically said Merle was just using Connie ("You travel with men who don't care for you and use you like a whore!"), and Deanna was walking all over poor Fredo.
