I'm desperately searching for the Sabrina movie (the original version, 1954) script on line. Now, either the script is not available on line or I'm not able to find it!
Anyone can help me, please? I ADORE that movie. Almost know it by heart. I'd love to read it in English.

Although I can't really find you the script, the death of it's screenwriter, Ernie Lehman reminded me of such a witty, well-written script it was. However, this can be attributed to the original writter of the Stage Production Alec Coppel.

I'm probably alone here, but Sabrina is Wilder's worst film IMO, but still good. I love the scene where Hepburn returns from Paris and William Holden goes insane over her. :p

When I think about a word to define "Sabrina" the only one that comes to mind is DELIGHTFUL. I think "Sabrina" is in fact an absolutely delightful movie, the quintessential romantic comedy. I love every bit of it, from the beginning till the end. For example, the scene where all the house servants gather for reading Sabrina's letters from Paris. Or when she has a dog named "David", an absolutely irresistible detail, especially if you are a girl and ever experienced a love disappointment! The only puzzling thing is they casted Bogart for the part of Linus. I mean he was already too old for the part, nonetheless he was great as the icy old bachelor who unexpectedly found himself alive and in love with the most delightful girl ever seen on the screen.

I don't know why you think this is Wilder's worst movie, DV. Even if it may be a little too politically correct for today's standards, my opinion is we'll never have such a good, elegant, amusing, DELIGHTFUL romantic comedy again.

I have it. Haven't seen it. Will watch it soon.

It's a great cast, but something's missing for me. It's not a bad movie at all, just Wilder's worst, which is better then some director's best films. I rank Wilder's films like this.

Billy Wilder was truly a genius, he managed to deliver so many masterpieces one after the other. Sabrina is one of them.
DV, I agree with your list except "The Seven Year Itch" which IMO is not better than Sabrina.
However, I think "Some Like It Hot" is definitely better as is "The Apartment".

A special Wilder recommendation - "One,Two,Three" with James Cagney is such an hysterical comedy you wouldnt want to miss. And it has some great inside jokes about Cagney himself, his movie "The Public Enemy" and Robinson's "Little Caesar" . And of course, there are a number of references to Sabrina as well, but I will keep my mouth shut till you see this movie.
Sadly tho, this movie was so hard for Cagney (he needed to memorize so many lines and it was very hard for him)

What do you think of Double Indemnity and Sunset Blvd.? Both are among the 100 best ever IMO. Double Indemnity is the definitive film-noir.

I'll be frank. Wilder is one of the five greatest directors ever. His repetior is unbeatable.

He wrote Ninotchka, the dicted some of my favorites: The Lost Weekend, Sunset Blvd., Sabrina, Stalag 17, Some Like it Hot, The Apartment, etc. He single handedly re-created the Romantic Comedy with "Sabrina" adding wit, great direction and acting and making it entertaining. I think it's amoung his best, and a personal favorite. Then again my little cousin was named "Sabrina" because of this film.

Sabrina is a quirky, sweet love story. Sunset Blvd. is a much better film, and more important. Just about everything is better, including the direction.

I never got a chance to see it but remember it didn't do very well...either in reviews or at the box office.

Harrison Ford seemed a great choice for the part of Linus (originally played by Bogie); even Greg Kinear was probably ok as David. BUT...I think they would've needed a MUCH bigger (and brighter) star than Julia Ormond to carry off the Sabrina part.

I mostly remember Julia Ormond in 'Legends of the Fall'. Her performance was very nice, she was lovely and graceful but in general I think rather dull; at least too dull to play Sabrina.

This was just on tv the other night...Audrey Hephurn is Star of the Month on TCM. I have to admit that for a Billy Wilder film, parts of it do lag just a bit. Overall though, I've always thought it a rather delightful movie.
And even though it's true he may have been just a tad old for the part, Bogie in my opinion was adorable as Linus.

Well, Bogart was older at this point. He seems more gentile and kinder. This shows him at his most "tender".

Funny thing is that he didn't enjoy working with Hepburn who was notorious for forgeting he lines or flubing up many takes, something Bogart didn't enjoy because since he was a professional from old Hollywood, he was expecting to get a quick take.

Lavi, do you have any problems with old bachelors? I dont... :p
