The dust clears as Coca-Cola shoved Pepsi up its own vending slot(ouch! ), but a new battle brews in the horizon. Our identities are everything, but what happens when two quite talented and respected filmmakers that are among the current crop of supreme storytellers have the same damn last name? So folks, once and for all, who will prevail as THE best director in Hollywood named "Anderson"? Will it be WES Anderson, the talented quirky little shit who gave the world BOTTLE ROCKET, Owen Wilson, RUSHMORE, THE ROYAL TENEBAUMS, and THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU.....currently has an American Mastercard commercial, and reportedly Martin Scorsese is a fan of his work. What a little shit! or PAUL THOMAS Anderson, aka PTA to his fans, the mastermind of greatly respected pictures like BOOGIE NIGHTS, Dirk Diggler, MAGNOLIA(which ironically was quoted by someone that I've been engaged in lately within a pissy fight), PUNCH DRUNK LOVE, and he happened to give some major boasting to the great Phillip Seymour Hoffman before his Oscar and very nice M:I 3 paycheck. PTA is a man that many film buffs believe is the new Robert Altman for our times...and Altman aint even legally dead yet! Alright folks, will it be Wes or Paul Thomas Anderson?!?! NOTE: Before you ask, I gave the wimpy mother fucking hack that is Paul W.S. Anderson the job of referee within this fight. Either way, hes done for, at least hopefully before he gives us RESIDENT EVIL 3.

Oh my God, is it even a fair fight? Wes is a talented man, but PTA is our generation's Altman, and he is our generation's Scorsese. The man is a brilliant talent, and my personal favorite director. Infact, Magnolia needs a re-viewing on my new surround sound system that I just got for my room.
As does Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love, and Hard Eight, in that order.
Any man who does a film about the 1970s pornography industry, in the style of Goodfellas, is the man. Paul Anderson is a far superior film-maker, no doubt to it.

But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."

I was actually expecting Ronnie to sway towards Wes... But I am glad to see he has gone the opposite way.
So, who else is tired of waiting for PTA's adaptation of Oil? (There Will Be Blood)

He's a large gluttonous viking-sort man, and he'll pillage your village, rape your women, burn your crops, poison your water supply, corruprt your children, eat your house pets, and then make an outstanding film about it.

I forgot about him.
There are too many Anderson's that hold directorial positions for me to keep track of... Although, quite a few of them are talented.

I don't think they should be compared. Their styles are nothing alike at all.
Having said that, I think I like Wes Anderson more, but Paul Thomas Anderson could prove to be a better filmmaker.
PTA hasn't released a film in four years. He is very inconsistent in stlye. "Hard Eight" (Sydney) was an excellent, low-key character-study, far different from what he would attempt in the future. "Boogie Nights" was brilliant, and one of my personal favorite films. I'll never get tired of it. I used to think "Magnolia" was the greatest film of the 90's, until I saw "Short Cuts", and explored the work of Altman. "Punch Drunk Love" was an odd film, but one I really enjoyed.
Wes Anderson seems to be getting more ambitious with his projects, but they aren't necessarily getting better. "Bottle Rocket" was a lot of fun, and a very innocent film. I can't decide which of his other three films I like more. Though unlike PTA, he seems to have more of a trademark quality about his films. "Rushmore" told the story of a troubled teen through the medium of theater; "The Royal Tenenbaums" told the story of a disfunctional family through the medium of a novel; and "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" was told through the medium of a documentary, yet it wasn't a mockumentary. His films are hard to define, but endlessly unique, and that is why I like him more.
Though PTA's next film sounds very promising.
How am I not myself?
