Well, here is the thing. There are about four or five studio's that are releasing exclusively on Blu-Ray, where as the only studio I know of that is releasing exclusively on HD DVD is Universal. Other studios will be releasing films in both formats. And, as mentioned, Blu-Ray disks have a larger storage capacity... So, if logic prevails--which, hopefully it will--Blu-Ray will win out.
I'm rooting for Blu-Ray anyways. They can fit 50 GB's, and the cases aren't as terrifyingly hidious as the HD DVD cases (although the entire case shape/color scheme idea is tacky to me).
"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."

In fact, I told Blockbuster I was going to start charging them for repairing/cleaning their DVDs, as a lot of folks apparently don't care how they handle 'em. Pisses me right off. But they are now being coated with an incredibly strong protective layer. I read an article on IGN that said they had trouble damaging it with a screwdriver (though obvious intentional malevolence will harm the disc), creating almost an impenetrable disc free from the scratches and nicks that have plagued this generation of DVD's. http://www.tdk.com/procommon/press/article.asp?site=pro&recid=115 Blu-ray Discs were originally released in Japan in April of 2003 with a protective cartridge. The cartridge was necessary in order to protect the recording material, which is manufactured close to the Blu-ray Disc’s surface in order to realize the disc’s high density recording capabilities. TDK pioneered hard coating technology, eliminating the need for cumbersome cartridges. Every TDK Blu-ray Disc includes DURABIS, the world’s most advanced and most protective hard coating formulation. DURABIS increases the scratch resistance of Blu-ray Disc media by a factor of 100, as demonstrated in rigorous testing. DURABIS also resists fingerprints to help eliminate errors caused by disc surface smudges. Because the DURABIS coating technology rapidly discharges static electricity, the discs also resist the accumulation of dust, a potential source of recording and playback errors. TDK Blu-ray Discs provide absolute reliability for perfect recording and playback every time.
