You think that this book is better than The Godfather? That's an INFAMIA on these boards! Are you crazy or something!

Yes, it is a good book. As for making a movie, there were some rumors right after the book came out that a movie was being talked about, but I guess that nothing ever got past the talking. too bad, huh? This story would make a good movie if casted and done correctly.

I read Omerta also. I found it to be pretty good as well. Of course after reading GFR, Omerta is an excellent book.

I too heard rumors of a movie. I wouldn't mind if they did. We know it wouldn't beat GF, but at least the story is halfway decent.

Come to think of it, they are very similar. Cross De Lena resembles Astorre Viola and Don Domenico Clericuzio (however you spell it) resembles Don Raymonde Aprile. Very similar books with very similar characters. Both very good.

I just finished OMERTA, and I must say, It was pretty good, I wasn't sucked in to the story as I was with THE GODFATHER, but it was a good book with a pretty good storyline. I hope they do make a movie of it. My book doesn't say anything about a "Major Motion Picture" It was published in 2000 by Ballantine Books.

Hey, how's it going?

I received "Omertá" in the mail after ordering it less than a week ago online. I got a new copy for only $3+shipping. I've yet to start on it, but I'm looking forward to doing so.

I just finished reading Omerta, it took me a while, and I was disappointed. It had none of the epic grandness that The Godfather or the Sicilian had. Puzo glossed over many details and the characters were pretty generic. The plot was standard mafia fare... nothing interesting or page turning. The ending was very anti-climactic too. I never feared for Astorre or any of his cousisns and didn't really care about one character in the book, outside of Rosie.

This is definitely Puzo's weakest.

However, I did like Rosie, the Sturzo Brothers and even Heskow. They were probably the best written characters and Aspinella Washington could have been a great character had Puzo devoted more time to her and made her a deeper character. Instead, she came off like an Indiana Jones or James Bond villain.

And then there were some Puzo sentences and images that captured his simplistic beauty and ease, but they were few and far between, IMO. Everything else was by the book bestseller jargon. And while Puzo has done his best writing as a commercial writer, I've always believed him to be better than that. With Omerta, he sank to commercialism.

I think a movie could be good, it could fix a lot of the book's flaws, but on the whole, I would like to see a better book be made into a movie. Omerta just doesn't deserve it.
