What is your favourite Michael scene in any of the Godfathers?

Mine is just after he lost Fredo in Cuba and returns to Tom who promptly informs him of the miscarriage. He is already stressed out as it is and that is clear as he wipes his face with the towel. U can almost see whats coming. When he flips out at Tom its some of the best acting in cinemogrphic history (I think).

He has many great scenes being the main protagonist, but my favorite is easily the one where he defines the plan to kill Sollozo and McClusky to Sonny, Tom, Tessio, and Clemenza. The way he sits in the chair first shows how he can command and wield power and authority. His way of thought and speech reveals a brilliant strategist. It's the scene that shows his change from the idealistic college boy to a leader of a Mafia family.

GFI: The night of killing Sollozzo. Not only the restaurant scene, but also the dinner beforehand with Sonny, Clemenza, Tessio, et. al. and the car ride to Louis' Restaurant.

GFII: The ending flashback scene where Michael examines his life and how it all fell apart.

GFIII: The confession to Cardinal Lamberto.

couldnt agree more! best scene then afterwards its putting the plan into action when he does the killing. But that scene is so good and the speech he gived puts a chill down my spine just when he says

"..and il kill 'em both..."

i wouldnt say it fell apart id say its the best thing that could have happened to him. Although he feels grieved for his sin of killing Fredo other than that (which fredo deserved) i dont think his life has fallen apart.

A person would have to be hard pressed to come up with a bad scene by Michael. The first thing that came to my mind, was the initial meeting with Senator Geary. This scene set the persona of Michael as being someone that was to be reckoned with. Of course the scene where he plans the murder of Sollozzo and McClusky, is proably the most pivotal scene. It shows his transition from "nice college boy" to up and coming don.

GF1- The scene planning the killing of Solozzo & McClusky.

GF2- The scene where Kay tells him she had an abortion. I love his eyes in that scene when he gets pissed off right before he hits her.

GF3- I like the scream that comes out of his mouth when Mary gets shot.

Mine is the actual scene of him killing Sollozzo and the captain of police. He follows the exact plan as he goes to the bathroom and retrieves the gun, but instead of blasting away like Clemenza told him to, he calmly sits back down and then spaces out, then in a blink of an eye he has shot Sollozzo dead, and then shoots McClusky, but the first shot doesn't kill him, then as he flees the scene of the hit, he is still holding the gun, as your thinking to yourself drop the gun, then finally as last possible second he dropgs the gun and flees. A classic scene of American cinema history and I also liked the scene where Michael goes Don't ask me about my affairs, as Kay wants to know the truth if he ordered the death of Carlo. Michael then looks her right in the eye and simply says No with menance and command, as Kay trusts his word.

Speaking of that scene Don Lights, the first time I saw the movie,when he grabs the gun and goes to touch it with his left hand,I was thinking Dont touch it!!! and then he realed his hand away.

Among many: His confrontation with Frankie in his father's former study, when he plays Frankie like a violin. Brilliant!

With all due respect, Michael is not only feeling remorse for killing Fredo. He's examining how his life and destiny were altered. Look at how Michael has changed from the beginning of GFI to the end of GFII. He's gone from being a warm-hearted, compassionate, determined young man to a cold blooded, calculating, detached, and untrusting middle-aged man. Everyone Michael loved is either dead (Vito, Mama, Sonny, Fredo, Apollonia) or estranged (Tom, Kay, and his children). Yes, he does recover somewhat in Part III, but he has definitely lost much of his humanity along the way.

I concur.

The killing of Sollozzo and McClusky. Watch his eyes, and how the scene would be without those and the overhead railway.

Michael embracing Fredo at their mother's wake and looking over to Neri, silently giving him the quiet but resolute order to have his own brother killed. Nowhere else is there a more powerful scene in all of the American Cinema.

I too think the whole dinner with McCluskey/Sollozo is in the top scenes. It's at that point that Michael's life would never be the same. The audience felt his anxiety/fear leading up to the murder. Amazing to me was the fact that much of that scene was acting only in Pacino's facial expressions. He kept the audience captivated. I remember thinking as Michael leaves the restaurant "drop the gun, drop the gun". Very intense

Second: the abortion scene with Kay. Both scenes were fantastic. There are so many more, but those two among my favorites.

I agree with ya stallionette, the scene when Kay tells Michael she had an abortion, when you see his eyes get hard, that is pure Pacino right there. Volatile as it comes...

A good Michael scene for me would be the death of Mary. If ever there was so much pain felt for one character, Michael Corleone was it. That cry of anguish was so heart-wrenching, you could hardly believe how much he has held back.

well as far as i'm concerned i liked:
in gf1 there wasn't a prticular favourite scene
in gf2 i liked the scene where michael hits kay , i like it when he just stares at her and as he starts to get mad and unleashing his anger with a slap.
in gf3 i liked the scene where michael was announcing vincent as the new don and as michael was leaving the room he gives a final glance to vincent getting his hand kissed , i juss loved the way michael looked at him.

and that's all i've got to say about that.

As everyone says, there are so many to choose from. I think most of my favourites have been mentioned, although I do like the bit in GFI when Michael gets hit by the "thunderbolt" - the look on his face when he first sees Apollonia. Then when he's in the little bar in Sicily, instead of bolting when he finds out the bar-owner in her father, he stays and asks to meet her. I especially like the way Fabrizio pauses when he's translating the bit about gaining a husband. We really start to see how persuasive and powerful Michael is getting. I went on holiday to Sicily this summer and we visited that bar and had a beer at the same table they filmed it at. It was great!!!

Does the bar still look the same. Where in Sicily exactly. My favorite city in the world is Roma! I threw several coins in the Trevi Fountains so legend has it I will return!

It is too difficult to pinpoint a fav Michael scene, but a classic Don Corleone scene is the walk away scene after Carlo is killed...It speaks volumes

GF I: Tie between the Solozzo planning/killing and the baptism sequence
GF II: "I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart."
GF III: "Temper like his father."

The famous scene where Michael gives Fredo the kiss of death. "I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart; you broke my heart." Thats my favorite.

The bar looks a bit different, it has a canopy outside and lots of plants. You can recognise it very easily though. Inside there's lots of photographs of the films and the filming of them. Its in a little village called Savoca, where they also filmed the scenes where Michael and Apollonia get married. The church still looks exactly the same
