The GoodFellas DVD is pretty crappy. No special features, not anamorphic, not great sound, and it's a flipper (a disc you have to flip over halfway through the movie). In this case, I don't think it was a "cynical marketing ploy" by the studios. It's just that GoodFellas was a first generation DVD released around 1997 back when dual layer DVDs hadn't been developed, which meant that there simply wasn't room for special features or for extra audio tracks. DVDs have since improved where you can fit so much more on one side of a disc, so they can cram on DTS tracks and director commentaries and short documentaries and things like that. I'm more happy that the studios are (allegedly) working on a better DVD to appease the fans of this great movie than upset that I will have to buy another copy of a movie I already own (known as "double-dipping" in DVD jargon).

I agree with everyone here: "Goodfellas" is a great movie, easily the best film of the '90s. But, the DVD is very disappointing, particularly the sound track. Scorsese invested so much in a terrific sound track and so many action scenes, and it's no better than an ordinary-grade VHS tape. "Casino" is no great shakes, either. "Mean Streets" is in mono.

Goodfellas is unbelievably good. Joe Pesci's performance in this film is as good as any I have ever seen. The first time I seen the "Why I am I so funny?" scene, I was on the edge of my seat. I think one of the reasons I like it so much is that is is the antithesis of the Godfather, showing the mafia at a lower level, the tracksuit and blowdried hair level, as oppossed to the top.

goodfellas is definately a movie i got in my collection, it has stunning performances by Ray liotta, Joe Pescie and as usual Robert De niro. It just took you straight inot mafia life and had you at the edge of your seat, hell of a movie.

Goodfellas is unbelivable. Ray Liolta is billant Robert deNiro is as usual untoucable, but Joe Pesci simply outshines them all. He just burns a whole in the screen, with scenes such as 'you think I'm funny?' and 'dance ya little prick, dance'!!. Pure class. the DVD is crap though. Anyone know of any plans to rerelease it with extras?

Its such a shame when a great movie on DVD doen't have extras. I am still waiting until they re-release a better version. Goodfellas has a great story, actors and director. One of my favorite movies deserve a better DVD format (to give fans what they paid for = The Godfather DVD was worth every penny).

I rented the Goodfellas DVD. Very few features. They could've at least put in a commentary track or something.

I used to work with a bunch of genuine movie buffs. I had a TV and a VCR in my office, and often brought in movies that we could watch (partly) during breaks or lunch times. The Billy Batts scene (with Frank Vincent) was the most-requested of Goodfellas for these viewings, with Spider-gets-shot #2. Incidentally: The guy with the salt/pepper beard, turtleneck and medallion who's greeted by Batts is Vito Piccone, former lead singer of the Elegants, a '50's doo-wop group that had a single hit, "Little Star," in '58 (anyone here old enough to remember it?) And Vito Antuofermo, former middleweight contenduh who played The Ant in GFIII, had a tiny bit part in Goodfellas--Pesci greets him at the Copa.

Although I have seen Goodfellas before, I watched again for the first time since I started watching the Sopranos. Man, it was weird hearing Dr. Melfi's voice (Lorraine Bracco's character in the Sopranos) and seeing her act totally different from her Dr. character.

This movie is spectacular. A different view into the mob than GF. This movie had a lot of funny moments, too.
My favorite part is when Henry keeps on looking up at the helicopter, he was so blasted he thought he was just hallucinating.
But, why did Jimmy help Tommy f* up Billy Batts? I knew Tommy was stupid and hot tempered, and I always thought Jimmy was much smarter than Tommy, but Jimmy never gave the consequences of f*in up Batts too much thought.
I always laugh when I see De Niro kicking Batts, the part where he kicks em non stop, one right after the other.
I wish they'd cut down the swearing though, it's a little hard to take sometimes...I can handle Scarface but not Tommy's swearing in Goodfellas, plus, I wanna show my parents this movie, but again....the swearing.
