Ricardo, I like your impression of Gravano. That's exactly how he acts. I'm going to forewarn you that in his book, he blames almost everything on Gotti. That's not very nice! It's sad that two people who were almost like family to each other, could turn against each other like that! I will say that he does continously praise Gotti about everything too. So he gets kind of confusing when you read his book. One minute he talking bad about Gotti, the next minute he is talking about how Gotti was the only true gangster besides himself. Anybody else think that maybe he was doing that to make sure that when Gotti read the book, he would not get too mad? There is something interesting about the book, Gravano is talking about how Gotti, Frankie Loc, and him are waiting for their trial, well Gravano and Frankie Loc were talking about how when they get out, they will kill Gotti. I know Gotti was kind of mean to Frankie Loc when they were in prison and he critize Gravano on the tapes, but is that really a good reason to kill him for. Since I did read that Gotti read the book, I wonder what he thought?

I agree, John H. Davis is one of the best authors. I read the books Mafia Dynasty and Kennedy Contract, those were the first two "Mafia" books I read. Reading about his encounter with Luciano in Mafia Dynasty, made me like Luciano. I felt bad for Luciano because he tried to do legit business, but went back to illegit business. The reason being that the government thought his legit business was smuggling drugs into the USA. The government checked out the business and could not prove that it was illegit. So they made him stop his business. That's confusing!

I finally saw the movie, Witness To The Mob, I thought it was pretty good. I didn't like that he tries to blame everything on Gotti. He complains about how Gotti got him into the mess, which is true, but Gravano pretends to be the victim. It just bothered me that he would act that way. I guess some people never change. I did like the part at the end when it was supposed to Gotti in prison talking about Gravano and Gravano in Arizona (the state that, according to him, belongs to him) talking about Gotti. It's sad how their friendship ended.

"Underboss" was a good read, despite being hypocritical. Gravano ridicules Castellano for being a mere "racketeer," while he and Gotti were honest-to-goodness "gangsters." Then he reprints every complementary word Castellano ever uttered about him. Then he denounces Gotti. Killed 19 people, including close friends and relatives, because he's a real "mafioso." Yeah, a real SS storm trooper ("I vas ohnly obeying orders"). Jerk. Plenty of books about Gotti, including "Goombata," which isn't bad. Organized crime books generally can be good page-turners but are seldom authoritative or deeply researched because gansters generally aren't the types to write autobiographies (except sanitized ones, like Bonanno's, which is still a good read) or leave their collected papers to some university for researchers to peruse. Two excellently research books I recommend: "Little Man," the Meyer Lansky biography by Robert Lacey, and "The Black Book and the Mob" by Farrell and Case, which is the best book extant on Nevada and gangsters.

I kind of feel bad for Frankie Loc because Gotti and Gravano have kind of teamed-up on him. Gravano making comments about Frankie Loc wanting to kill Gotti. Claiming that it was all Frankie Loc's idea. Gravano probably wanted Frankie Loc dead, so he put that comment in the book. Then Gotti would read it and want Frankie Loc dead. Poor Frankie Loc, caught in the middle of their fued with each other. Personally, I think that Gravano and Gotti were communicating with each other somehow! I haven't figured it out yet.
