I'm glad that the 3rd season is coming out before they begin to air the 4th season. I need a 3rd season review and I would prefer to get this review before I see the 4th season.

Here's a copy of the box art for the DVD: And here's the description: HBO just announced the third season of The Sopranos for a DVD release on August 27th. The set will retail for $99.98 as usual and will feature anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks on all of the episodes. Extras include audio commentaries by Michael Imperioli (Episode9), Steve Buscemi (Episode 11), and David Chase (Episode 12), A Day on the Set of The Sopranos featurette, a recap of seasons one and two, as well as the usual trailers and recaps that the other two season sets included, and more. I can't wait! [ Fixed image --JG ]

Thanks for the info! JG
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

Typically, the DVDs hit Blockbuster the same time they hit store shelves for purchase. One of the Sopranos sites (either http://www.sopranoland.com or http://www.the-sopranos.com) claim the DVD set will probably be out more like Oct. or Nov. I hope Aug. 27th is the actual date!

I believe that season 2 hit the Blockbuster shelves pretty soon after the DVDs were released in the stores. But the date given in the specs is for the DVD release. While we're on the subject of VHS vs. DVD, I would strongly suggest purchasing a DVD player as soon as it is financially possible. DVD is so much better than VHS (just like how CDs were better than cassettes), and in a few years VHS tapes will virtually disappear from the shelves, just like how cassetes are nearly impossible to find these days at the music store.[/b][/quote]Seriously, I feel sorry for people that are missing out on the wonders of dvd.
Go rent/buy Boondock Saints now on DVD~great mob action

I second that, Don Corpuzzi. I never realized what kind of quality I was missing until I went out and got a DVD player. My next goal is the much coveted HDTV...but that's some major $$$$. I appreciate the info. on The Sopranos 3, too, comrades. That's also my goal!

Again you're right DC, I had no idea what I was missing by not having a DVD player. I'm in the process of replacing all my VHS movies, with DVD's. All I can say is it's going to take awhile. Heck I still have to get Season 2 on DVD. I have season 1.

I can see your point, if you break it down that way...Godfather DVD collection $65.00 By 20 hours running time for all five disc....$3.25 Hr. HBO screwing you for $80.00 by 13 Hours..$6.15. After having 12 HBO channels on Cable and seeing the last season on every dam day, I guess I just don't think it is worth it at this time...five years from now when you want to look back...yea maybe. Look at the first season then look at this one and notice the changes in so many things.... I'll wait and pick that collection on the used market or discount section later for peanuts.... Now the GF DVD collection, I had to have the first day...period! So I'm a jerk...oh well

Welcome, Hyman Roth! Another fellow Southerner (living in the capitol of the South, no less)! Anyway, I may be in the minority here, but I consider The Sopranos real entertainment. Each episode builds upon the other and it reaches a wider audience than just your average Mafia fans. Granted, it can't reach "classic cinema" status because, unlike the GF Trilogy, it's a TV series and not a movie. However, just like any show, you always catch something you didn't catch before if you watch it multiple times. While I can understand why some may not want to see each episode more than once or get the DVD collection (it may not be their cup of tea), I nonetheless consider it very entertaining. Besides, the numbers can't lie: it's one of the highest rated series on TV right now.

I suppose everyone's tastes are different, M.F.M. As we say down South, "one man's crap is another man's treasure." I've got all 5 X-Files sets (seasons 1-5) on DVD...so, roughly about half a grand investment. For some, that's a waste of money, but for me (my ol' lady's a big fan too), it's well worth the money. And, like I said, it may suit some folks to just see each Sopranos episode only once (or even not at all), and that's cool, too. But personally (i.e., speaking only for me ), I think such box sets have tons of replay value IF the particular show is your thing.
