I recently bought and watched a couple of Marlon Brando's early films, On the Waterfront, and the Wild One. I was quite taken by these films as i was impressed by them, Brando certainly was great in them both. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen either of these films and what they thought of them.

Angel,

Yes, i have seen both of those movies (it's been a while though) and they were both good. You might also want to see "A Streetcar Named Desire", (you know with the famous "Stella" scene). That too is good. Brando has always been a great actor and was at his best in some of the earlier films. He wasn't bad looking either.

The Wild Ones is classic. It's what first gave me and all my biker friends a bad name...and we relished it!

yeah, i want to see 'a streetcar named desiree' because i've heard that he's great in that and it'll be interesting to watch. But i greatly enjoyed watching the other films, and he was just such a fantastic actor, and talk about cool, in the wild ones!

Brando was phenomenal in both "Waterfront" and "Wild One." But he gave his greatest performance of all time, imhop, in "Streetcar." The only performance that rivals his in "Streetcar" is DeNiro's in "Raging Bull."
"The Wild One," despite being little better than a B-movie, is universally regarded as one of the most influential movies of the '50's, largely because of Brando. When A&E did Brando's biography a few years ago, both Dennis Hopper and Anthony Hopkins said "Wild One" was the film that most influenced them. I was 10 or 11 when it played in my neighborhood theater, and every single kid in the neighborhood was so leaped up over it that we all got motorcycle jackets, painted "BRMC" on the back, and clipped playing cards to the rear wheels of our bicycles so they would make putt-putt sounds when we pedaled.

Though Brando's first Academy Award was for 'On The Waterfront', I have to agree that his most memorable 'younger' role was that of Stanley Kowalski in 'Streetcar'. The absolute perfect contrast to Vivien Leigh's dainty, fragile yet snobbish/phony Blanche. What a team they made!!! Their final scene together, where he screams 'HAAAA HAAA' right into her face is one that still gives me chills every time. I'm always flumoxed that he didn't get the Oscar for that...until I remind myself that the Best Actor winner for that year (1951) was Humphrey Bogart for 'The African Queen'...every bit as enjoyable and deserving a performance.

I was gonna start a new topic on The Wild One but luckily my search turned up with this.

I finally got to see The Wild One today and I have to say I was very impressed with it. It really does deserve the reputation it has.

"Hey Jonny, what you rebelling against?"

"What'dyou got?"

It's very short but a very satisfying film. I hope I don't have to wait too much longer to see On the Waterfront and A Streetcar named Desire.

I like On The Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire were great yet I didn't like The Wild One very much. Still, a classic. Brando has done a lot of great films actually. OTW, ASND, (of course) TG, Apocalypse Now, etc. etc. etc.

A great actor.

One of Brando's greatest performances was the part of Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls. It came out in 1955. He co-starred with Frank Sinatra, Vivin Blaine, Jean Simmons, and Stubby Kaye.
