Hi,
I liked this mob movie. Al Pacino was great in the lead. Sean Penn was also good as his friend/attourney. This picture was better than Scarface and more believable. The hospital scene where Pacino removes the bullets fron Penn's gun is a scene to be remembered. In the end Carlito is killed by Billy Blanco from the Bronx. It is sad because Carlito truly wanted to go strait.

Hey Paul, we'll probably be bombarded with "BOOS" but I enjoyed Carlito's Way much more than I did Scarface. This is a very subjective point of view; in other words I can't say if it was a better film, better script, etc., BUT, it rang true with me and I really was saddened by the ending, because I wound up caring about Carlito's future. The characters were very realistic and Pacino's accent was better in Carlito's Way, although I've learned on this bb that the Scarface accent was deliberately 'over the top'. I also enjoyed the authentic NYC location.

Hi,
It was Benny Blanco. When in doubt go to http://imdb.com I should have done that before writing Billy. I guess I was lazy.

I only saw it a few days ago, thought it was excellent, the ending is great, you got the whole adrenalin pumping chase scene and then he gets shot by Blanco. Pacino's acting was awesome, not quite Scarface material but a very good movie.

Chris: "He could be out there stalking us right now..." -Paulie: "With what...his cock!

Tony Soprano : You're looking good. Looking better.
Junior Soprano: Tony, if you're gonna lie to me, tell me there's a broad in the car waiting to tongue my balls.
Tony Soprano : Hey, you want that, it's a phone call away.

Carlitos Way is a great movie but I like Scarface a little better.

Leonard: I dont know. See, I have this condition.
Teddy: Well, I hope its not as serious as his, 'cos this guy's dead.

Carlitos Way is my equal second faverout film along with Taxi Driver and Back to The Future.
Nothing will ever pass Scarface, but Carlito's Way was the nearest thing possible.

I have to admit, the first time I saw this film I welled up - Ive never done so at any movie before or since, but this film is a beauty.

I cant think of a single flaw with this film accept perhaps the beggining which is slightly irratating.

In fact, if I had to reccomend a single Pacino film to someone who wasn't familiar with him it would be this one.
10/10!

The hospital scene with the bullets is one of my favourite scenes too. I love this film I prefer it to scarface....maybe cos I'm a woman, I dunno, but I prefer this, I can watch it over and over and nearly always cry at the end Pacino is sooo believeable in his role

I like both movies a lot, but I prefer Scarface more than I do Carlito's Way. Maybe it's because of his leading ladies, I'm a big fan of Michelle Pfeiffer, but don't particularly like Penelope Ann Miller.
His performances in both were, of course, electrifying, but I prefer Tony to Carlito.

Ironically, the exterior of the hospital is the same hospital were Michael went to visit his father in 'The Godfather'.

Altho this isnt Godfather related, did you recognise the station at the end when he got shot. It's the one from The Untouchables with Kevin Costener. I remember the pram bouncing down the staircase

Yes, Brian De Palma wanted to film it at the World Trade Centers but at that time it was during the bombing so he decided to film it at the train station again. It would be interesting if they were able to film at the WTC. I wonder how it would have turned out.

Something I read somewhere compared Carlito's Way to Scarface, saying that Carlito Brigante was who Tony Montana would have been had he lived, gone to jail, gotten out, and tried to go straight. I thought that was an interesting idea, because in many ways the two characters are similar.

so it is to be seen as a sort of unofficial sequel huh?

I don't remember much of both movies, have only seen them once and it was like a year ago. Still want to see them again though, I do remember liking them.
