Whats the difference between the golden globes and the academy awards??? which one is better and more prestigious???

I think the academy awards are more prestigious.

Plus you might want to watch where you post topics such as this, I think this is more suited for the general discussion board.

But then I don't want to step on J Geoff's toes.

the Academy Awards are more prestigious, but IMO the Golden Globe is SO much better and enjoyable.
the Oscar is a pure politic thing (or do you think the elders from the academy like Eminem???)

Academy Awards are given out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, for outstanding achievement in filmmaking.

Golden Globes are distributed and voted for by the Hollywood Foreign Press, and cover television as well as motion pictures. They don't seem to honor writing/directing so much as the performers themselves. They also don't cover documentaries/animation/short subjects...

Also, in Golden Globes the categories are more varied, enabling more nominees & winners. In other words the films are broken out into drama and musical/comedy, whereas at the Oscars it's just five nominees for the major awards (Best Picture/Actor/Actress/Supporting..)regardless of type of film.

And I agree...Oscars are the more prestigious, but Golden Globes are much more relaxed and fun event.
