It is NOT available on either DVD or VHS. I believe some of our members saw the film in its theatrical release last year (plawrence, for one), and they recommended it. Here's a link to one of last year's discussions on the movie (below): THIS THING OF OURS DISCUSSION

There was an earlier thread which I started back in July of '03 after seeing the film, which has been deleted. While I might have been a bit too effusive with my praise, saying some thing to the effect that "Just as The Godfather will be our standard for memorable gangster films of the 70's, and Goodfellas and Casino will be for the 80's and 90's, This Thing Of Ours could very well be the most memorable gangster film of the new millenium." I saw it twice during the ten days or so that it ran in one of two NYC theatres - both times in a near empty house. I understand that it never even opened in most cities, and although I do remember a couple of other members got a chance to see it, I don't remember who they were. They still have a website up for the film http://www.thisthingofours.net/ and I visit from time to time to see if there's any news about a VHS or DVD release, but so far no luck. The cast also featured James Caan and Vincent Pastore from the Sopranos.

Originally posted by Letizia B.: I saw this twice when it came out, too. I LOVED it! I wouldn't say it's the Godfather of our generation, but it was really good. It's one of the best mob movies I've seen, definitely. Some of the acting could have been better, but most of it was awesome.
I want to buy it, too... On the site, it says "Coming Soon" under the Store link... so maybe that's where it'll be.
Wasn't there something else about Danny Provenzano around that time? Like didn't he get arrested a few weeks after the movie came out, for some reason or another? What was that all about? I believe he was arrested for extortion, racketeering, and assault.

He owned a printing compnay, and got into trouble for some of the methods he used to collect money owed to him. There is a scene in the film, you may recall, which draws on his personal experiences in this area.
He was tried and found guilty, and I think the film was produced either while he was awaiting sentencing or appealing; I'm not sure which.
That's funny that you also saw it twice, Letizia. The first time, I took my teenage son who is really into the genre. The second time, I took a friend who I knew would really appreciate it because (let's just say) they're "familiar" with the lifestyle.
True, by no means can you compare it with big budget movies like "The Godfather", "Goodfellas", or "Casino", but for a low budget indy film, you can't beat it.
I though there were two really memorable scenes: The one in the Chinese restaurant where they're sitting around talking about the time they had to collect money from some guy who was really big, and they say something like "It was like the line in the movie. We needed a bigger gun."
Also, the scene with Pat Cooper as the lawyer. He practically stole the picture.

Plaw, I saw it alone both times... my uncle was out of town, and no one else I know cared or knew about it. What a bummer, huh? I love that Chinese restaurant scene... It was hilarious, and how they were on each other's case all throughout the movie, too. Always correcting each other while telling stories, telling the stories wrong, misquoting famous things, and arguing about stupid details. Reminded me of my cousins. With the money collecting thing... you mean the hammer-on-the-finger "technique"? Have you seen this great picture of our Frank? I came across it just now while looking into the trial. I want him next to me if I ever get indicted for something! How cool does that look? :p Probably ruins your case, though, to have a tough guy next to you. Yeah right, you're innocent! Then who's that?
