Hi there, I always wondered, how did Tommy know as soon as he opened the door, that he was going to be killed? Was it because no one was in the room? Sorry if it is a dumb question , but I asked others and no one seemed to have a good answer. Thanks in advance! Maple Leafs

Such a lovely spoiler there in the subject, for anybody who hasn't watched the film and intends on doing so. Welcome to the site. Mick

Yes, I believe that's the answer. Even when I saw NOBODY in the room I got a sinking feeling in my gut. When you're 'made' there's supposed to be a big crowd there to congratulate you, and a sort of a celebration. Soon as he saw an empty room, Tommy was street smart enough to realize he was a dead man. And by the way...spilling details of a FOURTEEN year old movie is NOT a 'spoiler'. Even if some out there have not yet seen the picture, that's the way it goes if they're gonna accidentally find out a crucial piece of the plot that would normally come as a surprise. Apple

Why isn't spilling details regarding a fourteen year old movie a spoiler? I haven't seen any of the old Cagney gangster films, and would hate it if somebody ruined the end for me, or something as major as the equivalent of Tommy being whacked. See what I mean? (With those eyes rolling everywhere, I suspect you won't.)
Mick Capo, Spoken like a true film buff. Age has no bearing here. Considering many old films, especially those older than fourteen years old, are considered some of the best. No movie should be ruined, regardless of age. Spilling the end of a movie(especially a good one) is a crime and should be punishable by glueing that person to railroad tracks in the path of the steel monster. The Doc
And you liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord's commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, take down your guitar and turn sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song.

i was reading a magazine one time, an article about Steve Buscemi, and I was planning to watch Fargo for the first time that night, and the article alluded to the fact that he dies in the woodcutter. I was so pissed. sorry if i ruined that for anybody
