De Niro and Scorsese Discuss 'Taxi Driver' Sequel

Screen legend Robert De Niro has reunited with iconic director Martin Scorsese to work on a sequel to their classic movie Taxi Driver. The Oscar-winning actor, who starred as disturbed Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle in the 1976 film, has confirmed the movie veterans are mulling over script ideas for a follow-up to the gritty original. Apart from his comedy turn in Meet The Parents and its recent sequel Meet The Fockers, De Niro has starred in a series of flop films - and critics are hoping Travis Bickle's resurrection will restore his reputation as one of the greatest dramatic actors of all time. De Niro, 61, says, "I was talking with Martin Scorsese about doing what I guess you'd call a sequel to Taxi Driver, where he is older."

Well i think this is a great idea! de niro hasnt been able to show his full capabilities as an actor recently and somtheing like this would be great. Im not sure what kind of plot would evolve though?

True, but I don't see how it can be better than it's original and frankly I don't see a point in it being made. Now if they wanted to make a Goodfellas 2 where it picked up from where 1 left off, showing Henry divorcing Karen, going into the Witness Protection Program, etc then I could see that, but not this. In any case it's Marty & Bobby so I will see it, but I'm just not expecting much from it nor am I that excited.

No, it won't in any way. The great thing about the first one's end is you can have more then one interpretation which will become obsolete with this. This is horrid.

See my longer rant in the Gen Discussion thread, but Travis is the epitome of the angry mislead youth. Nobody cares what happened to his when/if he grew into a senior citizen.

I would love a Goodfellas 2.

I wouldn't love it, but that would make more sense to me to make that instead of Taxi Driver 2. I'd see Goodfellas 2 before Taxi Driver 2

Goodfellas 2 would also be shitty. All of Scorsese's movies should stand on their own and have no sequels.
