I've read:
Lord of the Flies - 9th grade
Of Mice and Men - 9th grade
To Kill A Mockingbird - 10th grade

I enjoyed them all, and I don't think I could pick a favorite! A Tale of Two Cities has been my favorite school assigned book so far, but these were really good, too.

Lord of the Flies and The Catcher in the Rye are simply amazing books. They'll completely blow you away.

Of Mice and Men is great too, but it's been a looooong time since I've read it. I've reread the other two quite recently.

You must get the book "Different Seasons" : it has both "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Stand By Me"("the body")

Also,I strongly suggest anything by Arthur Miller.
My favorite is All My Sons. I like it a lot more than Death of a Salesman which is also great.

I enjoyed the book Of Mice and Men. I've also seen the Malchovich version, which was pretty good. But the original version with Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney Jr., now that is a classic! Poor George .

The Catcher In THe Rye: Amoung the greatest books ever written. Holden Cauwfield is amoung the most complex charecters ever. His story of his weekend in new York alows us to expolore him so well. Salinger used an ingenious style of narrative. A MUST READ!

Band Of Brothers - The Single Greatest Small Unit History ever written. This story about Easy Company, 2/506th PIR is so well documented and written. This is Ambrose's strongest book and his masterpiece.

The Maltese Falcon - The Single Greatest Detective novel ever written. Hammet's writing is so damned good that it is nearly ideatical to the 1941 film adaptation which has come to be remebered as one of the greatest films produced. That HAS to say something.

To Kill A Mokingbird - Harper Lee creates such a tranqill story about the loss of innocence and the trevails of growing up and learning that the world isn't perfect. What a beautiful book.

Of Mice and Men - Steinbeck's second greatest novel. It is a quick read (I read it in 6 hours) and shows Steinbeck's ease in creating a story. I perfer "The Greapes Of Wrath".

I want to comment on "Catch 22" and "The Grapes Of Wrath". Both are tied with me as the greatest American books ever written.
