Although he didn't get a pass, Gravano was marked for death by Peter Gotti. Huck Carbonaro and an associate, Fat Sal, made an elaborate, well-financed plan to track him down and blow him up in Tempe AZ, where he was operating a swimming pool construction business. The plot failed because the Feds arrested him on a drug dealing charge:

They had him in their sites several times, but kept prolonging things by saying they needed disguises, and were growing beards and trying to look like motorcycle club members. If Peter Gotti had sent 2 serious people out there Gravano would be dead IMO. That may have scared off future rats, but the heat would have come down hard on the mafia.
