Palermo, mafia: 24 arrests, boss with State subsidyPalermo, mafia: 24 arrests, boss with State subsidy
The district of Santa Maria di Gesù has been hit.

PALERMO – From lace to the local party. Life between Villagrazia and Santa Maria di Gesù was ruled by the bosses. Some of whom had the time to devote themselves to crime, as much as their salary was taken care of by the state with the “citizenship income”. Money stolen from those who really need financial support.

During the night, 24 arrests were made, 21 in prison and three under house arrest. The blitz of the Carabinieri del Ros, coordinated by the Palermo Anti-Mafia District Directorate, hits one of the historic city districts.

The disputed accusations are mafia-type association, extortion, association aimed at drug trafficking, robbery and fraudulent transfer of values. The carabinieri of the provincial command provided operational support to the blitz.

It emerges that some entrepreneurs in the food distribution and betting sector have made their activities available to the mafia. At two of them, at the request of the deputy prosecutor Paolo Guido and the substitutes Luisa Bettiol and Dario Scaletta, the investigating judge imposed a temporary ban on trading.

The money from the lace and drugs was used to finance the families of the detainees. Those who are free must take care of the men of honor who have ended up in prison: this is the basic rule of the Cosa Nostra. The Guadagna district is confirmed as one of the main dealing squares in the city of Palermo. It turned out that part of the marijuana came from an uncovered plantation in Riesi, in the province of Caltanissetta.

To certify the relations between the families of Santa Maria di Gesù and Villagrazia, which are part of the district, is the story of a building contractor forced to pay the protection money: the amount was divided between the two clans.

Territory control was rigid. This is demonstrated by the imposition of a supply of beverages on the owners of a reception hall; a robbery of a watch salesman; the return of a car stolen from the relative of a mafia member of the Palermo Centro family.

And then there is the local festival. The bosses decided everything: which streets to close, where to place the stalls, which and how many drinks to sell. And of course which neo-melodic singer should perform on stage. The concert eventually skipped, but only because there was the refusal of the commissioner.
