Alanis Morisette-Jagged Little Pill-1995 Being dumped is no picnic in the park (duh). The ego gets bruised, and a certain skepticism kicks in, making it difficult to believe pretty words for long. Alanis Morissette knows all about this, judging from the bitter ditty "You Oughta Know," the first single from her new album. The song is a howl of rage that starts off sweetly when the 20-year-old singer purrs out the sarcastic opening line, "I want you to know that I'm happy for you/I wish nothing but the best for you both." Picking at the scab of ruined romance as a vortex of sound builds behind her, Morissette sings "And every time you speak her name/Does she know how you told me you'd hold me/Until you died, till you died?" Then she practically shrieks [189k .aiff] "But you're still alive." It's a sound of inchoate fury, the sound of a woman scorned. Morissette's voice skitters, yelps, soars, and bites, summoning appropriate emotions on demand. At times, Jagged Little Pill recalls the songwriting of Liz Phair, Polly Jean Harvey, and Tori Amos - even if Morissette has little in common with those artists stylistically. The album resonates emotionally, from the naked yearning of the album-opening "All I Really Want" [225k .aiff], which tells of Morissette's search for meaning in a land that celebrates the vapid, to the quiet musing of "Perfect," [332k .aiff], which bemoans parents who "love you just the way you are if you're perfect." On Jagged Little Pill, Morissette goes for the jugular and hits it every time. She has an inherent gift for translating emotion directly into sounds and lyrics, using her dangerously beautiful talent to cut away the usual layers of bullshit like dead skin. All I Really Want You Oughta Know Perfect Hand in My Pocket Right Through You Forgiven You Learn Head over Feet Mary Jane Ironic Not the Doctor Wake Up You Oughta Know [Alternate Take]

Bob Marley-Excodus 1977 Following the assasination attempt in December 1976, Bob and Neville Garrick left Jamaica for Compass Point in the Bahamas, then onto England. Bob was on a creative high, as though the shooting had only strengthened his resolve; Bob was also now working closely with Tyrone Downie who was becoming more prominent as the group arranger than Family Man had been. By the end of February Bob was ready to lay the tracks down and the group moved to Basing Street to record. Songs had flown out of these sessions, many of them inspired by events around the shooting. The new album was to be called Exodus, decreed Bob, even though that was one of the only songs he hadn't yet written. It has been nearly twenty five years since Bob Marley gave us the gift of Exodus, and album so magnificent in scope that Time magazine named it the album of the century. "Every song is a classic, from the message of love to the anthem of revolution," Time wrote of Exodus. "But more than that, the album is a political and cultural nexus, drawing inspiration from the Third World and then giving voice to it the world over." Natural Mystic So Much Things To Say Guilitiness The Heathen Exodus Jamming Waiting In Vain Turn Your Lights Down Low Three Little Birds One Love / People Get Ready

Nice choice. This was his LAST album although some of the songs he did not want on their from what I have heard. The first song sets the tone for what the cd and 2pac was about when he was bailed out by Suge Knight: angry, cocky, and charasmatic. I think Me Against the World is also great too.

John Lennon-Rock And Roll 1975 All the advertisements scream "you should have been there." Oh, John, I really with I could have been there. This is nostalgia exactly the way it should be handled, with careful thought and impeccable performance. Side One starts with "Be Bop-A-Lula." I close my eyes and sit back in my chair and think of how it must have been in 1961 and 1962, the first times that John Lennon and his band (you remember them?) got on the stage of the Jacaranda or The Cavern or the Star Club in Hamburg and played those songs. I can almost feel the closeness of the girls who waited in queues all day pushing towards the stage to see better as the walls sweat with the intense body heat of the crowd. I can see the other bands standing under the archways of the Cavern Club marveling at the amazing dexterity of this band, a group of guys from the streets of their own town making music the way they imagined only black American groups could make it. John Lennon has taken a collection of his favorite rock and roll songs and interpreted them beautifully. It's Lennon's answer to Bowie's Pin Ups album. These are the songs Lennon grew up listening to. This is the music he learned from, the music he had to play, the songs that drew him into a rock and roll band. He has included "Stand By Me" (his latest single), "Ready Teddy/Rip It Up," "You Can't Catch Me," "Ain't That A Shame," "Peggy Sue," "Slippin' and Slidin'" and "Ya Ya." You can tell Lennon really enjoyed this album. He's one gentlman who seems to have come to complete terms with his past and he's done it all beautifully. Be-Bop-A-Lula Stand By Me Rip It Up (Medley) You Can't Catch Me Ain't That A Shame Do You Want To Dance Sweet Little Sixteen Slippin' And Slidin' Peggy Sue Bring It On Home To Me (Medley) Bony Moronie Ya Ya Just Because Angel Baby To Know Her Is To Love Her Since My Baby Left Me Just Because (Reprise)

I don't believe the libertines sound like a cover of the clash, for one the libertines aren't the most ovarated punk band to walk the face of the earth and they had a poet as a frontman

I have see them a number of times, brilliant and have once attened doherty's flat for one of his guerilla gigs, lovely bloke BUT now I pitty the man as said in 'what a waster' he's pissed it all up the wall. with his stupid behaviour but apprently he is still off heroin which is a good thing and has met with carl for the first time in nearly a year. If you like the libertines you might like the others, find a download of 'stan bowles' which is about Pete doherty and the lead singer dominic is a great guy who i have met on a number of occasions going to their gigs
