Assuming that Fredo's being somewhat honest with Michael, the language "something in it for me, on my own" doesn't sound like an expectation of donship. It sounds like what Moe had, and maybe what Fredo expected to have before the rest of his family came to Nevada.

"All of these men were good listeners; patient men."

Maybe I am misunderstanding but it seems to me Fredo had more than “what Moe had” Fredo his own boss now
and no Moe Greene slapping Fredo around because the players couldn't get a drink!

  • Geary set up Ref: J Geoff Malta Transcript - Inside a Fredo's club [one of many?]
Fredo and Tom walk in and shake hands with the manager
The Manager said “Freddie, good to see ya” like he hadn't seen Fredo for awhile

Was Fredo continuing his old tricks! leaving the Manager, to oversee, the players got their drinks!

Quote
Tom to Geary: It's okay You're very lucky -- my brother Fredo operates this place, he was called before anyone
If this had happened someplace else, we couldn't've helped you....

I always interpreted it as Roth and Ola promised to praise Fredo to Michael after closing the “deal”. Despite what some say Fredo wasnt looking to harm or betray Mike he just wanted to be looked at as reliable in the family business. Obviously we know he wasn’t smart but I don’t think it was for greed. I the “something in it for me” was for him to improve his reputation amongst the Corleone Family as a true underboss
