I think his son and most fo the others were not involved in mob activities or part of mob life so testifying is natural. Tough Tony himself was badly involved anymore, he kept his son away form it. The fight was a bunch of drunk 20 year0olds in a brawl, with one guy pulling a knife and turning it into more than that.
