He did that as a "ploy." If you look at photos of him back in the 1950s and 1960s, he dressed in slacks and sports jackets, dress shirts, and suits like everybody else in the mob.

You gotta remember too guys, that if a guy, any guy, regardless of his stature in the mob, is just lounging around, he's not gonna be dressed up in a suit and tie, regardless of how well a dresser he may be when he wants to be.

If a fella is at a poolside party, at the beach, bbq'n in the backyard, running daily errands, etc. It would be very unrealistic (ridiculous off him actually), to dress up. Am I right or wrong here?

Look at the way the business world is today. You have owners of companies who show up in gym shoes and t shirts. Then you got guys out there running businesses who dress in a suit and designer clothing.

Same thing applies to the mob.

The problem I have in the pic I posted originally is these are mob connected guys who are trying to portray an image that is more city kid wannabe thug gang punk. They look like they are desperate to be in the next hip hop music video and fitting in with a leader of the gangster deciples instead of the Italian mob. It’s very disturbing and pathetic!!!!

. True especially nowadays. Hell even in the early 90’s they were moving away from wearing suits and wearing track suits and things like that

I've seen a few recent photos of wiseguys where they were dressed sharp. They still do from time to time. It's whatever's appropriate for the occasion vs back in the 1950s when it was pretty much mandatory.

Let me make this clear I do not expect wiseguys to dress in suits when they’re hanging out in the backyard or with their buddies. Not really sure why mafia 101 keeps saying that. What I do expect is for them to hold themselves accountable with enough respect not to look like they’re trying to be a teenager. Lose the hat and the tacky gold chains and they will be in the right direction.

The main difference is Italian Americans dressed like Italian American’s.

Meaning even members of LCN who were dressed down they dressed in their own style they never dressed Similar to gangbangers.

I am talking about 80’-90’s-2000’s

So if LCN members weren’t dressed up they were dressed down in Sergio Teccini Jogging Suits that were made in Italy.

The younger generation we all dressed in Sergio Teccini jogging suits.

We never dressed like rappers did and/or like anyone else.
We white decks sneakers that would never have a scuff mark on them.

In general americans as a whole dress more casual the same with LCN however, when dressed down LCN and Italian youth no longer have their own style where you can spot them a mile a way.

From a distance you would not be able to tell if that is a group of young thug gang bangers or young Italian Americans. They often dress similar.

Italian American youth are influenced more by rappers and rap music than by John Gotti and his crew.

Peter “PAN” is an example of that.
He is extreme however, I can promise you this going away for 10 years def going toughen this kid up.

The question is: did he actually gave himself the "Peter Pan" nickname? If that's the case, I think that's a bigger crime against taste and self-respect than the hat he's wearing in that picture.

Major companies don't require executives to wear a suit and tie anymore, hardly anyone in these times wears suit unless required (Or if they are rich and over age 80.) Mafia members dress just like any other person, the same as they did in the 1920's. If Fedora hats come back into style, they'll wear them. wink

Again we are not asking them to wear suits unless it’s a wedding, dinner meeting at a nice restaurant, making ceremony or a sit down. A sport coat would be just fine as well.

Look all we are asking is they dress like Italians. Look at how people dress in Italy, all about fashion over there with designer clothing. The young Italian Americans should take their advice.

Are jeans and a t-shirt alright as well or gym clothing? Yes of course but do us a favor and wear something that at the gym or in your backyard or local social club watching Sunday football. Just don’t dress like a fuckin W#%£€!

Peter Pan is an insult not a term of endearment.
Penesi claimed to have given him that moniker

Based on the stories from J.P. his standing in the Luchese Borgata was equivalent to Matthew Bevaloqua in the Soprano’s.

Just a DUMB FUCK that is doing a DIME PIECE, for no good reason.

He coulda shoulda stuck to white collar he could have scammed $10-$20MM Dollars and received less jail time. No but the dumb fuck to gain brownie points he burns the car, mandatory sentence for Arson, conversely had he just slashed the guys tires and broken all the windows he would have received a slap on the wrist.

I guess that’s the problem with ALOT of “WISE-GUYS” of today, they are the OPPOSITE OF WISE.

Thank you for the responses so far. Much appreciated! By the way Peter Pans leader is named Penis with an E at the end if you unscramble the letters.

There's that pic of the Bergin crew where one guy is wearing cut off jean shorts. They're all dressed pretty sloppy. But it looks like a hot summer day. I don't know if it's a prison thing, but I get a kick out of seeing the mobsters having pressed pants in their prison pics. That says a lot. I recall that Rothstein was the one that groomed Luciano and company in the appearance of business men. As mentioned before, everyone dressed in slacks and fedoras. There's a difference between where you the candy store owner buys his and the man on Wall Street buys his. Manicures, shined shoes, neatly cut hair, it all shows that you have respect for yourself. I can't stand when I see a doctor at work with those nasty black shoes that at supposed to look like dress shoes. It reminds me of the days of working in the kitchen at red lobster.

Americans tend to over-romanticize Italy and Europe in general.

Italy is not stuck in the 60s.

Young Italians dress as causally and rap-influenced as young Italian-Americans. Especially in the urban areas. Half of my family lives there and the “ragazzi” all look like gangbangers from French hoods, with tight gym pants with hoodies. Take a look at the massive “trap” music scene. It’s where 90% of Italians aged 15-27 take their fashion cues for when they’re hanging out. My youngest cousins dress in light grey jogging pants even at school!

Take a look at some pictures of any young wannabes or associate of Italian criminal groups (from Rome’s gangs to the Camorra) and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

There was even a big gossip “scandal” a few years ago when a made guy berated a youngster he mentored when he went to get his button wearing jeans. I think it happened in Palermo.

Indeed but he doesn't walk in Armani or Valentino all day lol. In Europe most of the guys walk in casual designer clothes like Messina Denaro. But track suits in and around the house are also comfortable.

I believe the culture of human beings is getting more trashy as the years go on. All races are doing this and people just don’t have a sense of fashion anymore. For example, 20 years ago when I would go out to the nightclubs, you never heard someone say “wow it’s so nice to see someone dressed up, I wish more people dressed like you do.”

It’s really pathetic now when you dress nice people think you are arrogant and try too hard to impress others. Everyone thinks you are overdressed instead unless you hang out in Palm Beach or Boca Raton.

I know so many rich people who dress like bums. You would never in a million years think they are worth what they are worth if you didn't already know. A lot of artists who made it big still get some of their clothes from flea markets and second hand shops because they crave vintage. If you ever come to LA, check out the Melrose Trading Post. It's not my scene, but a lot of celebs go there

But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way
Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away

Indeed but he doesn't walk in Armani or Valentino all day lol. In Europe most of the guys walk in casual designer clothes like Messina Denaro. But track suits in and around the house are also comfortable.

Interesting I like fashion and nice suits but I also like Levis 501.

There’s nothing wrong with those. You don’t dress like a W$&@?!

Speaking of Italy, I wish we had a Jerry Capeci equivalent over there who spoke perfect English.
