I'd give it a solid 8. I usually never rate movies that high, but this one really moved me. Maybe it helped me that I went in not knowing anything about it. It's a bit ironic lol, but personally, I tend to enjoy movies less when they are recommended or hyped up before I watch them
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away

Speaking of Verhoeven: can we face the future with the prospect of new Paul Verhoeven films? 'Certainly. I'm working on three or four options. An American and a Dutch film. I'm working on the movie "Young Sinner" with the writer of Robocop, a Washington thriller. Gerard Soeteman, who wrote all my Dutch films (including Turkish Delight), came up with an interesting idea about a film in Holland in the 1930s. Because of corona, of course, I was unable to make any films for two years. In addition, I had hip surgery that went wrong, which bothered me a lot. Now that tribulation is over. I can start making films again.'
'Let's say, there is now a wave of prudishness. I still want to break through that.”
Paul Verhoeven (84) in March.

Yes I agree, why even bring "him" up at Cannes, only to score some points with the Europeans? But with Bobby and Donald it's something personal I don't know.

I wouldn't vote for him if I was American, but I'm also not suffering from Trump derangement syndrome.
Anyway political statements are not allowed at the Cannes film festival, so it's not the place to bring him up. De Niro was smart enough to not mention him by name though.

I personally don't mind the political talk by celebrities. I think the biggest problem is when people get blacklisted for having an opinion. What they've done to some of the conservative celebrities is absolutely terrible. They went to war with Kirstie Alley for example RIP. James Woods lost a lot of pull in Hollywood I know
I agree that De Niro is a bit deranged when it comes to Trump lol. The Black Wall Street thing is just nuts. With him it's more than Trump though, it's 'everything is racist'. I am even less interested in seeing that movie because of how much they're trying to tie it to 'systemic racism'. I still can't even figure out what that is
The TDS definition on Wiki is quite interesting. I still say there's two distinct forms of TDS. One that encompasses individuals who hold an unwavering adoration for Trump, making it impossible for them to acknowledge any wrongdoing on his part. And of course the other consisting of individuals who harbor such intense hatred for him that their ability to think rationally becomes compromised (De Niro, Joy Behar, Whoopi, Snoop, etc etc)

Good points, for film makers Hollywood is still the place to be. But it has changed a lot when you compare it to the old days. They would now never make a film like Total Recall. Like Paul Verhoeven said 'Hollywood thinks audiences are stupid'.

Spielberg, Lucas, Ford: need I say more? One of the most iconic characters, fighting Nazis, searching for the Ark of the Covenant. It doesn't get any better story wise and after this viewing, I noticed how little dialogue there is. There's enough in the film to move it along, don't get me wrong, but there's also so many scenes without dialogue that equally move the story along. A wonderful opening scene, a terrific score, and an awesome throwback to the action films I'm sure the likes of Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford grew up watching. 10/10

The most iconic role of young James Deans career tells the story of Jim Stark, new to the LA scene without any friends, he soon stands up to the local bullies while establishing himself amongst new friends Judy (Natalie Wood) and Plato (Sal Mineo). The film to me seems to be a microcosm of the times, peace time abroad but chaos at home. It didn't help with the father Frank (Jim Backus) being a complete and utter pushover, serving the whims of his overbearing wife Carol (Ann Doran). Jim is left in the middle, struggling to stand up to his mother without his fathers support. Jim appears to have the All-American boy concept that Hollywood was pushing at that time. A time capsule masterpiece that unfortunately, was one of Deans last acting roles before his tragic accident. 8/10
