For what it's worth, I believe that they have Mafia ties. And NY Mafia is right, they do oftentimes leave out mentions of mob connections. For example, Tom Farese is a well-known Colombo bigshot, but when he was busted in that healthcare fraud caper there were quite a few articles that made zero reference to his mob affiliation.
