The head of Porta Nuova family Giuseppe Di Giacomo was shot dead in 2014.
Investigated, as instigator of the crime is the boss Tommaso Lo Presti known as "il Gabibbo" or "the fool", who had taken the place of regent. Key evidence are the statements of the repentant Alessio Puccio, who in 2021 reported that he had learned from Fabio Pispicia, Lo Presti's brother-in-law and brother of Salvatore Pispicia, a leading exponent of Porta Nuova, whom he had met in prison, that the murder it had been decided by Tommaso Lo Presti and executed by Onofrio Lipari.
Fabio Pispicia himself had been found a few days later in a car in Piazza Lolli with weapons . It was thought that they had been used for the murder of Di Giacomo, but the thesis was refuted. Puccio had explained that the crime had been decided because in the last period Giuseppe Di Giacomo (who had assumed the regency of the mandate) had become "too absolute", i.e. too authoritarian and during an argument he had even slapped Lo Presti .
Onofrio "Tony" Lipari, who returned free a few days ago after a final 12-year sentence for the mafia has been arrested again.
