The amount of hypocrisy is immeasurable though. This is a President who would gladly do away with the 2nd amendment, yet his own son, his own flesh and blood gets popped for illegal possessing a gun. And yet Joe thinks that by banning AR-15's, people won't get their hands on them. Clean up your own house Joe before trying to step foot into mine.

A Canadian aircraft searching for the missing Titan submersible, which failed to return Sunday from an expedition to the wreckage of the Titanic, detected “banging” in 30-minute intervals coming from the area the divers disappeared, according to internal e-mail updates sent by the Department of Homeland Security’s National Operations Center obtained by Rolling Stone.

Canadian P-3 aircraft detected underwater noises in the search area. As a result, ROV operations were relocated in an attempt to explore the origin of the noises. Those ROV searches have yielded negative results but continue. 1/2

Additionally, the data from the P-3 aircraft has been shared with our U.S. Navy experts for further analysis which will be considered in future search plans. 2/2

On July 1, a commemoration will be held for the 150th anniversary of the practical abolition of slavery under Dutch rule. King Willem-Alexander will give a speech that day at an event at the National Slavery Monument in the Oosterpark in Amsterdam. Sources expect him to repeat the apologies that Prime Minister Mark Rutte previously offered for the country's dubious past.

Without slavery there would have been no Dutch colonial empire. The political and economic elite were strongly intertwined in the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries and slavery was the spearhead of their policy. The consequences of this can be seen all over the world to this day.

The Netherlands did not abolish colonial slavery until 1863, making it one of the last countries to do so. The House of Oranje-Nassau, the Royal House of the Netherlands, earned at least 545 million euros from the Dutch colonies, where slavery was widespread. The figure has been adjusted for inflation, and covers the period from 1675 to 1770. It is one of the results of the investigation into the country's connection to the slave trade. The investigation was commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations at the request of the lower house of Parliament.

Willem III, IV and V had an important political function as stadtholder in the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands, a predecessor to the present-day Netherlands. As stadtholders, they were essentially leaders, and their "colonial profit" accounts for half of the now known income that the stadtholders received during the period that was researched.

The House of Oranje-Nassau benefited in various ways from the colonies and thus from slavery, the research showed. For example, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) was an important source of colonial revenue. The noble family did not invest in the VOC directly, but at the time of incorporation the shareholders arranged to pay the Oranjes as if they owned approximately 3 percent of the shares. They then regularly used their influence to solve problems for the trading company.

Dutch Government Collapses Over Plan to Further Limit Immigration. Prime Minister Mark Rutte, one of Europe’s longest-serving leaders, had struggled to reach an agreement with his coalition partners about migration, including more restrictions.

According to The New York Times, the fall of the Dutch cabinet can be placed in a European trend. The American newspaper sees that asylum policy has become an important theme in large parts of the European Union and that positions are hardening.

In a number of EU countries, immigration is leading to a growing popularity of the extreme right. The New York Times points to recent electoral successes of Vox in Spain, the Sweden Democrats in Sweden and Marine Le Pen's Rassemblement national in France, all parties fiercely involved in the asylum debate. Moreover, Italy and Hungary, with Giorgia Meloni and Viktor Orbán, both have prime ministers who are highly critical of the number of migrants coming to Europe.

FINALLY the trust Dutch always had in their politicians is gone and migration has been out of control.

Laura Kempton, 23, was found dead in her Portsmouth apartment in 1981.

Decades-old New Hampshire cold case murder solved through genetic genealogy, officials say

https://abcnews.go.com/US/decades-new-hampshire-cold-case-murder-solved-genetic/story?id=101525486

Beginning in 2022, authorities re-analyzed DNA samples from the crime scene using forensic genetic genealogy technology and, on Thursday, publicly identified the suspect as Ronney James Lee.

Ronny James Lee, who was 21 at the time of the Laura Kempton's death, died of acute cocaine intoxication at the age of 45 on Feb. 9, 2005. If he were still alive, New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella said he would have charged Lee with first-degree murder for knowingly causing her death in connection with sexual assault.

Orcas attack boats in the run-up to the Mallorca sailing competition
Adjusted: Yesterday, 19:48Yesterday, 19:34abroad _

All three boats participating in the Copa del Rey sailing competition in Mallorca on Saturday were damaged after a collision with an orca. According to those on board, orcas attacked the boats.

Last Friday, the boat 'Tiro' from Portugal came into contact with two orcas off the coast of the southern Spanish municipality of Barbate, on the Strait of Gibraltar. A skipper of the boat told the maritime magazine 'Gaceta Náutica'. The rudder of the boat was damaged and is currently being repaired in Valencia.

As with the first two incidents, the boat was attacked on its way to the island of Mallorca to take part in the famous Copa del Rey sailing race. The regatta is very popular with the royal family in Spain. The 55-year-old King Felipe VI participates annually in the competition with his boat.

For several months there have been reports of orca attacks off the coasts of Spain and Portugal. According to the organization GT Orca Atlántica (GTOA), which is committed to the management and conservation of orcas around the Iberian Peninsula, the marine mammals are mainly in the Strait of Gibraltar this year. There, on July 11, a first 'attack' took place by an orca on a sailing boat that will participate in the regatta. After the boat 'Corsario', nine days later the sailing boat 'Kapote III' was also damaged in the same way.

Researchers point out not to speak of 'attacks', but of 'interactions', given that the nature of the incidents is not known. Some researchers believe that the animals just want to play with the boats. Alfredo López, a biologist at GTOA, suspects it could be a reaction from the orcas to a negative experience with a boat. Or perhaps animals, known for being very intelligent, have discovered "something new," it sounds.

The Fermi paradox

Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi's name is associated with the paradox because of a casual conversation in the summer of 1950 with fellow physicists Edward Teller, Herbert York, and Emil Konopinski. While walking to lunch, the men discussed recent UFO reports and the possibility of faster-than-light travel. The conversation moved on to other topics, until during lunch Fermi blurted out, "But where is everybody?" (although the exact quote is uncertain).

The Fermi paradox is the discrepancy between the lack of conclusive evidence of advanced extraterrestrial life and the apparently high likelihood of its existence. As a 2015 article put it, "If life is so easy, someone from somewhere must have come calling by now."

The coup in Niger has prompted concerns the West African country could curtail uranium exports, possibly hamstringing nuclear power production in France and beyond. But so far, source diversification and well-stocked inventories should be able to mitigate any disruptions in the short term, experts say.

https://www.france24.com/en/africa/...-threaten-nuclear-power-plants-in-france

Due to a long-standing policy that dates back to ex-president Charles de Gaulle, France derives about 70 percent of its electricity from nuclear energy, more than any other country. France is also the world's largest net exporter of nuclear energy, bringing in more than €3 billion per year.

But the military coup in Niger last week – and unconfirmed reports that the West African country intends to suspend uranium supplies to France – have raised questions over what role the industry should play in France’s future.

The reports led some opposition politicians in France to question the role of nuclear power in France’s energy portfolio, notably given French President Emmanuel Macron’s repeated calls for “energy independence”.

“Niger supplies France with the uranium it needs for its nuclear power plants … Reminder: nuclear power does not make for energy independence,” said Sandrine Rousseau, a left-wing Green politician on X (formerly Twitter) July 29.

Trump sued for election fraud
Former US President Donald Trump is indicted for his attempts to thwart the 2020 election results, including his role in the storming of the US House of Representatives on January 6, 2021.
The election was won by current President Biden.
Trump's claims that he won the election were "false, and Trump knew it," prosecutors said. Trump has been indicted on four counts.
This includes a conspiracy to block an official procedure, namely the confirmation of the election results.

Settlement on the table in the Holloway case: 'Deal Joran van der Sloot for confession'
JOHN VAN DEN HEUVEL

Modified: 3 min ago1 hour ag oin THE INTERIOR

BIRMINGHAM - Justice in the American state of Alabama is conducting secret negotiations with the lawyers of Joran van der Sloot about a deal. This has been confirmed by sources close to the investigation. Deployment of the so-called plea deal is a full confession by Van der Sloot of what he did with Natalee Holloway in 2005 and of the extortion of her family in 2010.

The Dutchman who was handed over to the US by Peru in June would – if the deal is finalized – receive a lesser sentence in exchange for a confession. There will be no jury trial.

Part of the agreement is that Van der Sloot undergoes a lie detector test. The results of such a test do not constitute legal evidence, but according to the Public Prosecution Service in Alabama, they do give an indication of the truthfulness of Van der Sloot's statements and possible confession.

It is much more common in the American legal system for the prosecution to make a deal with suspects. This is usually done to avoid a time-consuming and costly jury trial. In the case of Van der Sloot, the aim of his lawyers is that he will receive a maximum of twenty years in prison in exchange for a confession, which partly parallels the sentence that Van der Sloot still has to serve in Peru. In that country, Van der Sloot received 28 years in prison for the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores. Later, another sentence was added for cocaine trafficking from prison.

In Peru, Van der Sloot must remain behind bars until 2045. If the deal with the American judiciary fails, a jury trial will follow this fall. After the trial, Van der Sloot then has to go to prison in Peru to return to the US in 2045 to serve his American sentence.

I still believe his lawyer father helped him dump the body or someone else.
