Italian High Court Rules Casamonica Clan as Mafia The Casamonica clan is a mafia. This has been confirmed by the Supreme Court with the judgment that confirms the accusation of 416bis in the maxi trial. The judges of the second criminal section, expressing themselves on the appeals of more than thirty defendants, essentially confirmed the accusatory framework and accepted the appeal of the general prosecutor, also recognizing the aggravating circumstance of the armed association for some top positions for which an appeal bis was ordered only on the point to redetermine the sentence. The aggravating circumstance of having acted in the interest of the clan instead fell for secondary positions. The sentence The judges of the Court of Appeal of Rome on November 29, 2022 reiterated the accusation of 416bis. The highest sentence, 30 years, established by the second degree judges, went to Domenico Casamonica, at the top of the Roman clan. 'The Casamonica criminal group, operating in the Appio-Tuscolana area of Rome, with an operational base in the alley of Porta Furba is organized in a 'galaxy', that is a criminal aggregate made up of two family groups dedicated to usury, extortion, illegal exercise of credit, as well as drug trafficking, endowed with an undisputed 'criminal prestige' in the Roman criminal scene, whose individuals however operated in constant interconnection and protecting each other, thus increasing the sense of subjection and powerlessness of the victims, aware of being in the presence of a very cohesive and extensive group', the judges of the Court of Appeal of Rome wrote in the judgment with which they confirmed the mafia accusation for the clan. The convictions In the first instance, on September 20, 2021, 44 sentences were imposed for over 400 years in prison. The maxi trial was reached after the arrests made by the carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Rome as part of the 'Gramignà' investigation, coordinated by the magistrate Michele Prestipino and by the deputy prosecutors Giovanni Musarò and Stefano Luciani. With the sentence the judges confirmed the existence of a parallel association dedicated to drug dealing, with a facilitating function of the mafia association. Also confirmed were the guilty verdicts for the end crimes of the association aimed at drug dealing and that of a mafia nature, the latter consisting of usury, extortion, illegal exercise of credit, possession of weapons and fraudulent transfer of values. https://www.ilmessaggero.it/en/italian_high_court_rules_casamonica_clan_as_mafia-7875687.html

The acquittal for the Senese boss was annulled, the Supreme Court decision on Michele 'o pazz From editorial board
The Court of Cassation annulled the acquittal of Michele Senese in the trial arising from the investigation of the Rome Family Affairs DDA . As reported by Adnkronos, the supreme judges of the second criminal section essentially accepted the appeal of the Capitoline Prosecutor's Office against the sentence which on 9 February last year had acquitted Michele Senese and had dropped the aggravating circumstance of mafia facilitation by ordering a second appeal. The general prosecutor's office of the Supreme Court had instead asked to confirm the sentence of the Court of Appeal of Rome .
“SENESE CAPO FORTE IN ROME” In the memorandum, the Prosecutor General of the Court of Cassation had underlined how: "The collaborators reported, again speaking of Senese , of a person at the head of a particularly strong criminal group in Rome , even dominant in the narcotics sector, but this is not sufficient to qualify him as mafia-like, and in any case it is superfluous to underline how the Capitoline territory is dotted with significant criminal groups".

At first instance in Rome there were around twenty convictions, including his wife Raffaella Gaglione, his son Vincenzo and his brother Angelo and other defendants, for over 120 years in prison for charges ranging from extortion to usury , money laundering and fraudulent transfer of assets. Michele Senese, already definitively sentenced in 2017 to 30 years for the murder of Giuseppe Carlino , which occurred on 10 September 2001 in Torvaianica, on the Roman coast, was sentenced to 15 years. The sentence was later overturned on appeal with acquittal.
THE AFFAIRS MANAGED BY THE PRISON According to the prosecution, the 'o mad' boss , even from prison, continued to coordinate and manage the family's illicit activities by establishing the criminal strategy, exchanging 'pizzini' with his family members during conversations, in particular with his son Vincenzo, and with his wife , Raffaella Gaglione.
On at least two occasions, according to the investigators, Senese had exchanged the shoes they were wearing with his son, without being noticed by the security staff, to exchange messages. “ I mean, here we're talking about… who is the head of Rome! No, the boss of Rome, the boss... the boss of the Roman Camorra!!! He's in charge of everything!! “, said one of the arrested people, referring to Senese in an interception reported in the investigating judge's order. After the Supreme Court ruling, the positions will now return to the Court of Appeal of Rome for consideration .

Rome, ambush in Magliana Walter Garofolo, 55, a person known to the police and the Carabinieri for drug-related affairs was shot by two killers in a black Fiat Panda. Garofolo was hospitalized for observation at San Camillo where he underwent surgery. One of the three bullets fired by a man who got out of the small car hit him in the right thigh. It's not serious and the police may hear from him soon. Garofolo has specific precedents and in 2011 he ended up at the center of an operation that led to prison for his brother Fabrizio and Simone Capogna. It was the Split investigation, with 137 kilos of hashish imported from Spain together with an Albanian criminal group. The deal went badly, the cargo was intercepted and the gang identified by the Financial Police. In the end, however, yesterday's injured man was acquitted of that charge.

Ex Banda della Magliana mobster arrested in Rome drugs bust Colafigli allegedly headed ring despite being in 'semi-liberty' Aformer member of the notorious Banda della Magliana crime gang, Marcello Colafigli, was among 27 people arrested by Carabinieri police on Tuesday in an operation targetting an international drugs-trafficking ring based in Rome. The Banda della Magliana, a now-defunct crime gang that was active in the capital in the 1970s and 80s, was the inspiration for Michele Placido's highly acclaimed movie 'Romanzo Criminale' and a hit spin-off TV series. Investigators believe that Colafigli was the leader of the ring, and managed to organize the trade of major quantities of drugs and maintain relations with figures from the 'Ndrangheta, Camorra and Foggia mafias even though he was still serving a term in a semi-liberty jail regime. Tuesday's operation featured dawn raids in the provinces of Rome, Naples, Foggia and Viterbo, with 11 suspects jailed and 16 put under house arrest. Another is obliged to regularly sign in with the police. https://www.ansa.it/english/news/ge...6f2f307-8885-4d51-8dfb-d6b6f46b5007.html
