Firefighters continue working to extinguish flare-ups and contain fires in Lahaina, Pulehu/Kihei and Upcountry Maui.

A Ka’anapali fire reported above Puukolii at 6:10 p.m. Friday was reported to be 100 percent contained before 8:30 p.m. The fire is in the area where a county fueling station was positioned Friday to distribute an estimated 3,000 gallons of gas and 500 gallons of diesel for an estimated 400 vehicles that were lined up before the operation began. No fuel will be distributed Saturday.

Police are restricting access into West Maui through both Ma’alaea and Waihe’e. Honoapiilani Highway is open for vehicles leaving Lahaina. The burned historic Lahaina town area remains barricaded, with people warned to stay out of the area due to hazards including toxic particles from smoldering areas. Wearing a mask and gloves is advised.

Van Halen and The Circle bassist Michael Anthony and his wife Sue were vacationing on Maui when the wildfires kicked up.

They were able to get out Wednesday and return to California. He writes on social media, "So sad, and in disbelief about what is happening on Maui right now, especially in old town Lahaina! My wife Sue and I [had] been in Kaanapali the last 10 days, and we witnessed a lot of what has happened..."

And in another post he writes, "We were just at Mick Fleetwood's restaurant on Front Street having a relaxing dinner on Saturday!! Our hearts go out all our Ohana (family) on the island…"

Anthony also posted video driving Front Street in old town Lahaina, three hours before the fires started to destroy everything…"

Sammy Hagar, who lived on Maui for over 20 years, says, "There are no words to describe the heartbreak that my family and I are feeling for the people of Maui. We remain forever attached to the community.

SOUTH HOLLAND - In a town in the United States founded by the Dutch, alcohol can be sold for the first time in its existence. A pancake restaurant in South Holland, a suburb of Chicago, obtained an alcohol license this month, local media report.

Owner of Blueberry Field Pancake House & Restaurant says he wants to put mimosas on the breakfast and lunch menu, which are cocktails consisting of champagne and orange juice, starting in September.

The village recently relaxed the rules, allowing alcohol licenses to be issued. The condition is that the alcohol is only sold if food is ordered with it. Pubs and liquor stores remain prohibited.

The decision was made after many discussions between church leaders, entrepreneurs and neighborhood organizations. This fulfills a long-cherished wish of a large part of the inhabitants, who until now had to go to the surrounding towns for a drink.

But pastor of the local church, Melvin L. Moore, has reservations. “Some people are anxious about what the future holds. Some see the congregations around us and how they have changed,” he tells ABC 7 Chicago. According to him, South Holland has always been a safe and religious village and that could now change.

The mayor is less concerned. “With this step, we look forward to a bright future of progress and development, but we do it in a way that remains steadfast to our longstanding values ??of faith and family,” said Mayor Don De Graff. "The prevailing feeling is that we can change what we do without changing who we are," the municipality's statement continues.

Dutch immigrants from South Holland settled in 1846 on the spot where South Holland is now located. In 1894 it officially became a municipality. South Holland now has more than 20,000 inhabitants.

Over 2,200 structures were damaged or destroyed as the fire tore through Lahaina, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said, wreaking $5.5 billion in damage and leaving thousands homeless.

Hawaiian authorities said they were opening a probe into the handling of the inferno as a congresswoman from the state acknowledged that officials had underestimated the danger, and as residents said there had been no warnings.

"The mountain behind us caught on fire and nobody told us jack," Vilma Reed told AFP.

"You know when we found that there was a fire? When it was across the street from us."

Reed, whose house was destroyed by the blaze, said they had fled the flames with what they had in their car, and were now dependent on handouts and the kindness of strangers.

Kai Lenny, a professional surfer and a Maui local, has stepped up in the aftermath of devastating wildfires as frustrations mount over what many residents believe is an inadequate government response. He is leading one of many citizen-run recovery efforts on the island, saying people in the fire zone have told him they haven't seen a government employee in days.

He told CBS News that "some of us ... were kinda sitting back, waiting for help to arrive, and then nothing was sorta happening."

"We were just in shock," he said.

People contacted Lenny, citing a lack of help in their areas. He said he received texts and messages from friends asking if he could help, which led to his "boots on the ground" effort — bringing supplies to those in need with the goal of holding friends and family over until "the caravan arrives with everything."

"And it was just like, day after day, 'Where are they?'" he said.

"I haven't seen one state, one county, one federal official at any one of the donation hubs where people are most suffering," he said. "People are sleeping in their cars. People are asking for specific items now."

Lenny likened the west side of Maui to "a third-world country" and said locals there say no one has come to help them.

"The Hawaiian people, the locals that have lived here, they just always feel like they're the last to be thought of. And they're like, the foundation of it," he said.

Lenny said volunteers, some of whom lost their own homes and loved ones, have worked day and night at shelters and distribution centers.

"I wonder if the state, county, they believe we're doing such a good job, they don't need to step in," he said. "But a lot of these volunteers have been going all day, all night for five, six days now and are exhausted and are waiting for a handoff, or at least a break."

That '70s Show actor gets 30 years in prison for raping two women

American actor Danny Masterson has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping two women. Masterson says he is innocent. His lawyer plans to appeal. The 47-year-old actor is best known for his role as Steve Hyde in the TV series That '70s Show .

The sexual abuse took place about 20 years ago. The two victims stated that they were drugged and raped by Masterson in his home. That happened between 2001 and 2003, when the popular TV series was in full swing.

Masterson had also been accused of abuse by a third woman. But the jury remained divided on this charge.

The actor has not made any statement in the trial against him. Masterson also remained silent at the verdict today in Los Angeles. His wife and relatives were present at the hearing. The actor has previously said that the women had sex with him voluntarily.

Scientology
Both Masterson and the three women have been members of the Church of Scientology. The victims have stated that they only now came forward with their story because the church had urged them not to go to the police. Prosecutors say Masterson used his influence within Scientology to avoid prosecution.

In 2017, the actor was openly accused of abuse for the first time. In the wake of these allegations, Masterson was fired from the Netflix series The Ranch . The case is seen as part of the #MeToo movement.
