Vito Rappa, son of Francesco, was already indicted in 2007 by the Brooklyn Prosecutor's Office in a raid against the Gambinos.
In the reconstruction of the police and the magistrates, the old Rappa continued to act as a mafia boss, especially through a couple of lieutenants. One of these, the sixty-nine year old Giovan Battista Badalamenti from Torretta, usually resides in the USA, and in some interceptions in 2019 he commented with Francesco Puglisi (convicted of extortion aggravated by the mafia method) on the murder of Frank Calì, called "Franky boy" in the USA and «'u Franky» in Sicily, one of the Italian-Americans at the head of the Gambino family murdered on Staten Island a few months earlier.
