Mann growing up in Chicago was very passionate about the project, I believe him and Don Winslow were first working on a novel/book about Accardo and Giancana only then it can become a filmproject. I believe Mann has also access to private stuff, because he's in contact with Accardo's family.
There has never been a crime drama on tv that is as good as Miami Vice and more than likely never will be! Makes me want to put on an White Suit, some loafers without socks and head down to South Beach this weekend!
Yep we watched religiously but of course it was all we had because we only had an over the air antenna LOL
Miami Vice and Crime Story were excellent back then
In Holland we only had 2 public TV channels and some German and Belgian, way before commercial TV made it's entrance with MTV Europe in 1987 followed in 1988 by others.
LOL we always had problems with those antennas and we had no remote control yet..

My old man had a remote in those days, they were me or my brother
So many good projects which are going nowhere (yet).
BIG TUNA
In 2010, it was announced that Michael Mann was working on a biopic of notorious Chicago mobster Tony Accardo and his complex relationship with his protégé, Sam Giancolo. Sheldon Turner was brought on to write the script, and later Shane Salerno.
The film ultimately went nowhere. But then in 2016, Mann announced that he was instead working on a novelization of his script, teaming up with Don Winslow to co-write with an expected publication sometime in 2017 from Mann’s publishing imprint.
As of today, neither the novel nor film has materialized. It’s an intriguing premise, but one that Mann seems to have moved on from.

I would be more interested in Idol's Eye, the movie that was supposed to be about the crew that robbed Accardo's house. Have De Niro play Accardo and we're set. Sadly, nothing is coming. We'll see Beverly Hills Cop 5 though lol
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
