The psychedelic drug MDMA can reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, researchers reported in a new study published Thursday.
The company sponsoring the research said it plans later this year to seek U.S. approval to market the drug, also known as ecstasy, as a PTSD treatment when combined with talk therapy.
“It’s the first innovation in PTSD treatment in more than two decades. And it’s significant because I think it will also open up other innovation,” said Amy Emerson, CEO of MAPS Public Benefit Corporation, the research sponsor.
Earlier this year, Australia became the first country to allow psychiatrists to prescribe MDMA and psilocybin, the psychoactive ingredient in psychedelic mushrooms. The drugs are gaining wider cultural acceptance in the U.S. in part because of efforts by the nonprofit advocacy group Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies.
Kevin McCarthy has been impeached in a vote over his chairmanship of the House of Representatives. A majority was needed to impeach McCarthy. Although he was supported by most Republicans, a number of them voted in favor of impeachment. All Democrats also voted in favor. It is the first time in US history that the Speaker of the House has been impeached. The last impeachment of a Speaker of the House was in 1910 against Republican Joseph Cannon. It survived the vote. It is not clear what the next steps are, but there is no obvious successor who can lead the Republican majority in the House of Representatives.

Italian Prime Minister Meloni leaves partner after yet another public humiliation Italian politician Andrea Giambruno often made headlines for inappropriate behavior and controversial positions. The final straw was an audio recording in which he invites female colleagues for group sex. Published on October 20, 2023 at 11:08 am Reading time 1 minute
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is leaving her partner, Andrea Giambruno. She announced this on Friday . Giambruno, a television journalist for the media group of the late Silvio Berlusconi, has been a headache for Meloni in recent years: he regularly appeared in the news with lewd comments, controversial positions and outspoken television appearances. The final straw was an audio recording published Thursday in which Giambruno brags about having an affair and tells female colleagues they can work for him if they have group sex with him.
Meloni wrote on Facebook that “our paths have been diverging for some time, and the time has come to acknowledge that.” The two have a seven-year-old daughter together. This is the latest scandal that Giambruno has talked himself into, but certainly not the only one.
In August, two gang rapes were the talk of the town, one in Sicily and the other in a deprived area of ??Naples. One of the two cases involved a nineteen-year-old woman who was deliberately drunk during a night out, after which a group of young men raped her. Meloni promised strict measures against the perpetrators. Not long afterwards, her partner Giambruno undermined that point on television when he said, among other things: "Of course it is your right to get drunk when you go out, but if you don't get drunk, you don't run the risk of meeting the wolf." to run roughshod over.” The journalist was criticized by the Italian opposition and on social media, which also damaged Meloni.

Prime Minister for one year The breakup comes just before Giorgia Meloni celebrates her first year as Prime Minister of Italy. A first year in which the opinion about her premiership, after the initial skepticism, is mainly positive. Due to her past as a member of the youth movement of the neo-fascist party MSI, Meloni was viewed with suspicion, especially by the foreign press.
After a year she turns out to be a hardworking, sober and right-wing conservative politician who stands up for her homeland. And despite slip-ups by ministers from her cabinet and her now ex-partner, Giorgia Meloni is as popular as ever. Her party - Fratelli d'Italia - continues to grow steadily in the polls and is easily the largest party in Italy with 28 percent.

In-N-Out Burger says it will close its first location in its 75-year history due to a wave of car break-ins, property damage, theft and robberies affecting customers and employees alike at its only restaurant in Oakland, California.
“We feel the frequency and severity of the crimes being encountered by our customers and associates leave us no alternative,” Warnick said.
The state forensic agency on Monday reported the toll stood at 122 dead, with only 32 of the victims identified. Boric had warned Sunday that the earlier death toll of 112 could rise "significantly."
Most of the deaths have been in Viña del Mar, a popular tourist spot known for its beaches and botanical gardens. The town's mayor, Macarena Ripamonti, told reporters on Sunday that "190 people are still missing" in the city.

Mof is a swear word for a German, mainly used in the West Netherlands, North Brabant and Flanders . It was used extensively there during and after World War II, and although its use is declining, the word has been part of the Dutch language for hundreds of years.

Well G, Wilders won't be the prime minister many people are relieved lol, we do get a rightwing cabinet with his party before the summer. Wilders stays the undisputed leader of the PVV in Parliament. In polls the PVV has grown even more to around 50 seats that's amazing considering we have over 20 parties lol.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — More than a year after Abby Zwerner was shot by her 6-year-old student, a Special Grand Jury indicted the school’s former assistant principal Ebony Parker on eight counts of felony child abuse.
The charges were filed in Newport News Circuit Court. WAVY obtained a copy of the indictment, which is dated March 11, 2024.
Zwerner’s attorneys allege assistant principal Ebony Parker was warned three times before the shooting that the 6-year-old student had a gun, but she failed to call 911 or put the school on lockdown.
Court records currently have Parker listed as a fugitive.
If found guilty, she could face up to 40 years in prison.
