If you had to guess, how long after the good senator got framed for the murder of the prostitute did he have to purchase the license for Michael? I wonder how that situation played out. Obviously Geary knew he was screwed. I’m curious if anything was said. How much time would he have been given to get the deal done?

I'm guessing that Michael never demanded the fee for the gaming license. He didn't need to--the brothel murder put Geary's coglioni in Michael's pocket. He' have looked cheap--small time--if he'd demanded the fee after Tom arranged his alibi. Geary might have inferred that if he paid the fee, he'd be free of any obligation to Michael. Better for Michael to say nothing specific--just keep Geary in his perpetual debt through Geary's fear that Michael could ruin him.

I agree TB.

Also, have we ever explored how Geary knew about Michael's intended move on the Tropigala? I would assume Fredo was his source.

Oli, I think my namesake, not Fredo, tipped off Geary. In the Geary/Michael confrontation at Anthony's party, after Geary tells Michael that his move on the Tropigala will have the problem of the license being in Klingman's name, Michael's immediate reply is, "Turnbull's a good man." Geary's last words to Michael, after insulting him, were:: "From now on you deal with Turnbull."

We don't know because Turnbull is never seen, and only mentioned twice. I speculated a long time ago that Turnbull was Geary's political bagman or fixer:

Sure thing it was “not Fredo, tipped off Geary” about moving Klingman out
also Fredo was not privy to any family business and Tom tells Geary:

It's okay. You're very lucky -- my brother Fredo operates this place, he was called before anyone

It is not rocket science! for Geary to figure if Michael is interested in the casino, he has to move someone out and to get the license it had to be Klingman

The fee is based on revenue ... not a flat fee, the government wants to wet its beak (like Don Fanucci) ... and so the good senator would not want to cause the license to be in jeopardy ...

3.When a licensee has been operating for less than a full calendar month, the Commission shall charge and collect the fee prescribed in subsection 1, based on the gross revenue received during that month, on or before the 15th day of the following calendar month of operation.
