An English criminal may be behind the murder of a couple in Amsterdam in 2017. He was said to have been helped by Dutch people in committing the murder.
The police have released new images in the investigation into the death of Pieter Hoovers and his wife Tae. The couple was found dead in a house on Ceintuurbaan in July 2017 and it is still unclear who is behind the double murder. The new images could help the investigation, the police reported in the television program Opsporing Verzocht.
The images show a Mercedes Sprinter van. It was said to have been used by the suspected perpetrator as one of the getaway cars. The police now want to know who owned such a bus in the summer of 2017 and drove it on the evening in question. The police also shared images of another getaway car.
Operator in Thailand
Hoovers owned a cafe in Thailand, but was also well-known in the Amsterdam music and martial arts scene. He founded, among other things, the record label Outland Records. In the 1990s he traveled to Thailand where he met his wife Tae and with whom he opened a business in the seaside resort of Pattaya.
In the summer of 2017 they were back in Amsterdam. They were found dead in a house on Ceintuurbaan at the end of July. The police conducted an extensive investigation, offered 20,000 euros for the golden tip and released images of the suspected murderer in the spring of 2018. This all yielded nothing.
In 2020, crime reporter John van den Heuvel managed to obtain information from people in Thailand, where Hoovers and his wife lived. As a result, the case was reopened at the time.
In 2005, Hoovers' café made the news when criminal John Mieremet was murdered in Pattaya. The Amsterdammer was a regular customer of the Hoovers pub together with his good friend Ferry de Kok. Rumors that it was Hoovers who tipped John Mieremet away to his Amsterdam enemies were never substantiated.
