Ahhh I love the Olympic games. A time to celebrate humanity. So much to be excited about in Paris and one person I'm crazy about is Sha'Carri!! Then it's LA in '28
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away

In the 100 m, Shericka Jackson (another Jamaican sensation) is the fifth fastest woman of all time, while in the 200 m, she’s the second fastest woman in history
But look out for my fellow American Brittany Brown!

In the last days at the European Athletics Championships the Dutch won a total of twelve medals in Rome: 3 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze. This tournament will go down as the most successful ever. PHENOMENON Sifan Hassan wasn't even present so watch out for the Dutch next month.
Very bad for equestrian already enough people who want to ban it from the Olympics.
Charlotte Dujardin out of Olympics 2024 over allegedly ‘whipping horse 24 times like circus elephant’ Dujardin was bidding to become Britain’s most decorated female Olympian in Paris but was filmed ‘engaging in conduct contrary to the principles of horse welfare’
I was surprised when I saw Gojira make an appearance lol. I've seen them live plenty of times, from way back when they were still a sorta underground band during the "From Mars to Sirius" days.
Also, once again Evenepoel en Van Aert proved yesterday that they are absolutely among the greatest to ever do it.

Hang in there H lol Iceland ain't getting shit either. Btw tonight at 11 PM (Pacific lol), the triathlon will start, with an Icelander competing for the first time in Olympic history. Her name is Guðlaug Edda Hannesdóttir. We're all rooting for her
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
By the way, I love handball. It's a huge sport in Iceland and we have competed in the Olympics a total of seven times. Didn't qualify this time around, but we actually won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. You guys got Brazil next!

Nice my dad played handball. Yes it's popular here also hard sport also like water polo.
Guðlaug Edda secured the 51st spot in the triathlon. Not the greatest result in the eyes of some, but when you are competing against the world's elite, you can still be proud. Now I can sleep

Sifan Hassan's Olympic mission has raised eyebrows and attracted admiring glances abroad. The Dutch athlete announced on Wednesday that she will run the 5,000 meters, the 10,000 meters and the marathon at the Games in Paris. Three years ago in Tokyo, Hassan became Olympic champion in the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters. She will defend those titles. Then she will try for eternal fame in the marathon. The 1,500 meters, in which she won bronze in Japan, will be skipped by the 31-year-old Dutch this time.
Former top sprinter Michael Johnson is deeply impressed by Hassan's program. "For anyone else, this would be insane," the American track and field legend writes on X . "I don't think there has ever been an athlete who loves racing more than Sifan Hassan."
The British newspaper The Independent speaks of an impossible dream. "Running 37.5 laps on the track and then a marathon... The Olympic Games sometimes make you wonder about the unbelievable. Sifan Hassan is not exactly taking it lightly," the newspaper reports.
Emil Zápotek is the only athlete who has managed to win gold in the 5,000, 10,000, and marathon at a single Olympic Games. The Czech athlete dominated all three events, including his debut over 26.2, at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. In fact, Runner’s World named him the greatest runner of all time in 2013.
Hassan said she was inspired by Zápotek when she made her decision.
“I’m curious what’s going to happen,” Hassan said. “My big focus is just how I’m going to complete [the events], how I’m going to recover, especially for the marathon.”
Here is the timeline of Hassan’s schedule in Paris.
August 2: Round 1 of the 5,000 August 5: Final of the 5,000 August 9: Final of the 10,000 August 11: Marathon
Oh yeah, congrats to Liam Corrigan, Michael Grady, Justin Best and Nick Mead. In rowing’s 2,000-meter men’s four final, they held off a charging New Zealand crew to win an Olympic gold medal. This marks the first time the United States has won the event in 64 years. The last time was at the Rome Olympics in 1960

Nice ! Rowing is a big university sport in GB as well as the Netherlands. With the exception of the first edition in 1896, rowing has always been included in the program of the Olympic Games . Up until the Games of 1972, the sport was reserved for men, in 1976 women competed in this sport for the first time at the Games.
Paris 2024 | Karolien Florijn takes gold in the skiff - More success on the water Karolien Florijn has won the fifth gold for the Netherlands, the fourth in rowing. The 26-year-old Dutch more than lived up to her role as favourite in the skiff. Silver went to Emma Twigg from New Zealand, Victorija Senkute (Lithuania) finished third.
And also a silver and bronze in rowing and bronze in windfoiling.
It shows how great Holland on and in the water is. The Netherlands has a unique relationship with water: it is both our best friend and our worst enemy.
It seems that the French aren't allowing some of the female sprinters to warm up due to a rule change regarding the main gate. If this is true, there will be major repercussions. Sha'Carri is running, but she was one of those women reportedly, and it clearly affected her semi-final performance. Shelly-Ann is out lol. Unbelievable
Hahaha I love the French, but I'm losing so much respect for them right now. Jesus Christ, these are the biggest stars!!! This would never happen in LA. LA 2028!!! We'll do it right
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
Simone is making us proud. Homegirl won her sixth Olympic gold after triumphing in the women’s all-around individual final
Another Gold GOAT !
She was already the GOAT before she touched down in France. That woman is a God to us bro. A FUCKING GOD! You should see my girls and how much they look up to her
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
Sha’Carri getting silver after being sabotaged by the French, denying her entry to the warm-up facility, is fucking wild still. She won silver without warming up lol

They're saying Femke Bol has been suspected of steroid use in the past. Haha not surprised. No one runs that fast without PEDs
No one respects cheaters though. It truly hurts the sport. If true, people will look down on you guys and especially if you don't care lol
Here in Holland we never heard Femke tied to steroids, rumours from her rivals nothing more. She works so hard and look HOW she runs pure technique.
I remember her at the WAC where she pretty much did the same exact thing. I thought it was very impressive then, but this is the first time I'm suspicious of her. That being said, I'm mostly basing it on what I'm hearing from people here. She may have won this fair and square, but you can't chalk it up to technique. Kaylyn Brown's technique is just as good as hers, but what Bol does have are almost freakishly long legs. If anything is helping, it's the height. And quite possibly, performance enhancing drugs lol
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
I agree steroids have been big problem in the Olympics, East Germany, Russia, China, Romania were notorious back in the days. Doping control now is better, I will be the first to condemn athletes if they doped, but there is also a "grey zone" what is allowed.

Well said. If nothing comes up, I have no choice but to give her the benefit of the doubt. I don't want to be hard on someone who could actually be an honest person, and there is no solid proof. I was always 50/50 when it came to Usain Bolt. In 2013, the Jamaican anti-doping commission was disbanded because they weren't testing their top athletes. As we both know, a positive result for someone like Bolt would have been catastrophic for the entire sport. Some of Bolt's fans may find it hard to believe that their hero could have used performance-enhancing drugs, but they shouldn’t, especially considering the fact that the USATF successfully suppressed a positive test from Carl Lewis in the '80s

As a kid I was a fan of bad boy Ben Johnson still remember he was expelled and put on a plane right away. One of those legendary stories in Olympic history, but I was in shock lol.

As a kid, I rooted for all the bad boys, including Ben Johnson, Diego Maradona and John Gotti lol
But I have grown quite a bit in my old age, and now I value the good guys a lot more. Today, I would rather have dinner with Nelson Mandela than any of the people I looked up to as a kid

Lance Armstrong was another one loved him, I agree though Ben Johnson stilll believes he's the best ever Haha. All he said about Bolt "Not Bad" they are from the same parish in Jamaica.
Props to Bobby Finke as well. In the 1500m freestyle, he became the only U.S. male swimmer to win an individual gold medal, finishing in a world-record time of 14:30.67

Netherlands smash world record to win men's team sprint gold AFP Tue, 6 Aug 2024, 8:22 pm CEST·1-min read
Netherlands' Roy van den Berg, Harrie Lavreysena and Jeffrey Hoogland on their way to victory (Thomas SAMSON) Powerhouse Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen led the Netherlands to the men's team sprint cycling gold medal on Tuesday in new world record time to successfully defend their title.
Partnered with Roy van den Berg and Jeffrey Hoogland, they clocked a blistering 40.949secs at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome to consign Britain to silver. Australia took the bronze.
It was their second world record of the session after posting 41.191 in the heats to better the 41.225 they set at Berlin in 2020.
The same trio won gold in Tokyo three years ago, ending the dominant reign of the Jason Kenny-led British team that owned the title in Beijing, London and Rio.
This time Britain's Ed Lowe, Hamish Turnbull and Jack Carlin were no match for the speed, strategy and power of a Dutch team that has been dominant since 2018 when they claimed their first world title.
They won four of the subsequent five world championships and are now back-to-back Olympic gold medallists.
Hahahahahah Sydney motherfucking Mclaughlin-Levrone!!!! Gold gold gold motherfuckers USA USA USA USA USA!!! Hahahhahahah NEW WORLD MOTHERFUCKING RECORD!!!
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
I think she should be really happy with bronze though
Definitely. Also losing to Syd is nothing to be ashamed of. She has been an unstoppable force since Tokyo and is the first woman to break the 52 second barrier
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
Jesus Christ WTF is up with the men!!!!? Damn near all of our women deliver, but the dudes keep disappointing. The way they fucked up that 4x100 relay handoff was shocking
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
Another gold and two bronze on the cycling track, bronze for Hassan 10.000m and Women's Hockey team Gold. We rule hockey now first time both men and women win gold.
7th Place in sight of already the most succesful Dutch Team ever.
SIFAN HASSAN first women ever to win medals on 5000m 10.000 and Marathon on single Olympics. Harrie Lavreysen three golden medals ! 6th Place with 15 gold and 34 total.

These are my all-time favorite Olympics. Except for maybe '92. Wow! What a ride. Feeling blessed
92 in Barcelona and 2000 in Sydney were great. Next one in Los Angeles of course.
Hey H! I am on the board of a company that is at the heart of LA28 prep. The cash that has already been sunk into this is staggering, but we have at least $5 billion more to go

It's a hell of job, not many cities can pull it off too expensive nowadays. In 1928 it was held in Amsterdam. Would be cool if they could organize it again or The Hague or Rotterdam.

Yes, hosting the Olympics involves so many factors, and you’re absolutely right, it’s a major financial and infrastructural commitment. Big cities in larger nations often have the upper hand, but Holland could still present a strong case to the IOC, I believe. I hope you guys make a bid. That would be awesome
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
Yes we def could make a strong bid our King was also a prominent IOC member and the Dutch are really behind this amazing event (except a minority who are against it) We have plenty of sports facilities already and our infrastructure one of the best in the world. I can see them play beachvolleyball on the beach of Scheveningen LOL. European Championship beachvolleyball starts tomorrow over there.
NOS News • yesterday, 20:54 French authorities investigate online aggression against Olympic champion Khelif
The French Public Prosecutor's Office is launching a criminal investigation into online aggression and intimidation against Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif. The investigation follows a complaint filed by the boxer against social media platform X.
According to her lawyer Nabil Boudi, the Algerian boxer was confronted with "misogynistic, racist and sexist" comments on social media during the Summer Games in Paris.
Her lawsuit names X owner Elon Musk and author JK Rowling. The two celebrities wrote or shared social media posts suggesting Khelif is a man.
Several prominent figures made negative comments about Khelif during the Olympics. These messages were viewed millions of times.
Investigation started The public prosecutor confirmed today that it has opened an investigation into "cyber intimidation based on gender, public insult based on gender, public incitement to discrimination and public insult based on origin".
Under French law, an accusation against a social media platform is considered an accusation against "unknown persons". This means that justice is free to investigate anyone who may have written hateful messages. It is not known whether the prosecutor has any suspects in mind.
Discussion on Games The 25-year-old Algerian boxer made headlines this summer when her Italian opponent Carini gave up after just 46 seconds at the Olympic boxing tournament in Paris . Carini, who burst into tears in the boxing ring, concluded that it had never been a fair fight due to the hard blows Khelif was dishing out.
There had been a lot of commotion about Khelif for a long time. For example, the boxer was disqualified during the World Championships in New Delhi in the run-up to the Games, because she did not meet the participation rules of the International Boxing Association (IBA). According to the IBA, the Algerian had too high a testosterone level to participate in the women's tournament.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) sidelined the IBA in June 2023 due to corruption. According to the IOC, Khelif did meet the requirements to participate in the Games and her participation in the women's tournament was not under discussion.
After the match against Carini, Khelif received a massive amount of hate messages on social media. She felt abandoned and called during the Games to stop the "dehumanizing" bullying around her person.
Gold medal Khelif is the first boxer from Africa to win an Olympic medal. In the final, she was supreme against her Chinese opponent. After the match, Khelif said that she had every right to participate.
"My honor is intact, but the things that were said on social media were extremely bad. It has an impact on people's dignity," Khelif said. "This is the first gold medal for Algeria and the Arab world in women's boxing. I am incredibly happy."
Interesting. Yes, this case perfectly illustrates what I mean when I mention DSD (disorder of sexual development) as a potential explanation for what Imane might be dealing with, perhaps without even realizing it herself. We also need to be mindful of the fact that Imane was born and raised in Algeria, a predominantly Muslim country with a very conservative stance on these matters. Sadly, too many people seem to be in the habit of rushing to judgment, even those you would expect to know better.
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
