Largest drug seizure in Zeeland this year

Customs intercepted 3,600 kilos of cocaine in the port of Vlissingen on Wednesday. This is the largest drug seizure in Zeeland so far this year.

Cargo
The drugs were hidden among a shipment of bananas that came from Ecuador and was on its way to Germany. The street value of the intercepted drugs is more than 270 million euros, according to the Public Prosecution Service.

Arrest
A 27-year-old man from Middelburg has been arrested by the Seaport Police on suspicion of involvement in drug smuggling. The suspect's home is being searched in collaboration with Customs.

To secure
The police and Royal Military Police assisted Customs on Wednesday with securing the port area in connection with the large catch. The drugs were removed and destroyed by Customs' Special Assistance Team (TBB).
